Ross Barkley

I hate to say it but as soon as Roy handed him the No 22 shirt and took the No 8 shirt of him he should have realized he wasn't going. He's only 22 and now the hype may subside. It might be the best thing for his career long term although he could also be another Rodwell.

Absolutely clueless statement mate, Rodwell was never at the level that Ross has shown he is capable of

Dont agree at all with you saying Ali is on the same Level as barkely technically.

Ali averages 32 passes per game in the premier league & has a pass completion of 75% which is actually quite average. He is a fantastic player but is no playmaker he is very British i.e he doesn't have the ability to keep possession whilst under pressure in the manner that continental players do.

Barkley on the other hand averages over 50 passes per game yet has a pass completion of 87%. He Is able to do this as he possesses the ability to turn either way and retain possession whilst being strong as an ox & extremely quick.
How many of those passes are sideways and backwards. Statistics mean very little. From what I saw of both last season there's no contest. I'm a huge Barkley fan but Alli has been special and looks a leader.

Barkley looks like one of those players a bit like Deulofeu that won't really meet expectations until their mid twenties and then they'll be boss.

Assuming they are managed well.

Perhaps but Rodwell had a great start to his career (England caps), hyped etc and then now struggles to get into the Sunderland team.

Barkley is for sure a better player but honestly it could go either way with him at this stage. The choice of the next manager for him is very important.

If he ever stops giving it away carelessly then he will be almost perfect as the stats suggest he is miles ahead of the other England midfielders at keeping the ball.

Don't bore me saying stats this stats that it couldn't be more simple you either pass to teamate or not & his pass completion is way above the others.

He has also played more minutes & often higher up the pitch both factors making the higher percentage even more impressive.

I agree he does give it away cheaply too often & is devoid of confidence but he isn't be judged on a level playing field against the sheer Dross served up in this England team.
There's players far worse than him playing for England. But Barkley's problem is that he can really only play the No 10 role and unfortunately that means he is in competition with Sterling, Rooney and Alli. That's why Roy played him on the left tonight because he knows there's no point in taking him if it's not to play another position.

Playing him on the left wasn't hanging him out to dry but rather giving him his only chance of a seat on the plane. Whether he impressed enough or not is down to Roy.

Tactics put Barkley in the Spurs team & Alli in our team & there wouldn't be a debate.

Alli is a quality player but they are both very different players & i would build a team around them both now.

True Roy is a dinosaur Barkley & Alli have both scored more goals the the rest of that midfield have combined this season. Drinkwater & Henderson just give the ball away literally every second touch it's comical

He needs someone who isn't clueless on where to play him, hodgson is about as bad a manager for him as imaginable, doesn't allow for maverick type players, has no systems which involve a player roaming from the middle and favours grafters to game changers.

I would prefer him not to go tbh, gives him a good rest period not only physically but mentally, takes the pressure off him in the media as his confidence is shot as it is and saves him the travel for bits and pieces of games in the tournaments.

Get the new guy in charge let him work with Barkley and see where he is at come this time next season, hopefully a much improved player

But they play further back. They aren't in competition with Barkley or Alli for their positions no more than Stones is in competition with Rooney.

He needs to learn how to play centre midfield properly, or else we'll still be having these conversations when he's 30.

Wouldn't be surprised if Hodgson uses Townsend as his last minute, desperation dribble and shoot merchant instead.
