Ross Barkley

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but yours is totally wrong I'm afraid!
Alli is nowhere near Barkley for technical ability! He hasn't the control, technique or passing ability of Ross!

Doesn't have the control ? did you miss his goal of the season at palace ? the outrageous control for his goal at goodison ? his first touch and control is outstanding. Im not sure why you think Ross's passing is worth a mention, it's not really one of his main strengths. I would also say Alli is more intelligent and can spot a pass better, this is the weakest side of Ross's game (bar defence)

What he does better is defensive duties, tackling and work rate.

If Alli was all about defence and work rate there would not be the mega hype train that there is, the hype exists because on form he is clearly the best English midfielder. He scores spectacular goals & looks technically brilliant. He has the defensive side as well, he is more complete and offers more to the team. He has also developed a great partnership with Kane (Something Ross & Rom never managed to strike up). He has however only played 1 season in the league, he now has to get through the tricky second season... maybe he'll suffer like Barkley did.

I love Ross and hope with the right management he can become the superstar we all initially thought he'd be but you won't find many people outside of Goodison who think Ross is the better player at the moment.

I hope Ross doesn't go, his confidence and performances have both dropped, I think he needs a summer off to get fit and focus on next season, there will be other times for England, Maybe being in finch farm with the new manager in the summer will help also.

Alli is playing without fear just like Ross was playing with out fear in his first season. At the moment Alli is by far the better player and deserves to go. It's hard to say who will go on to have the better career but Alli does look to have a bit more snide in him and that's always a good sign.

The stats wouldn't agree but Ali has been playing in a better side than Barkley, which helps. I don't think Barkley will go which is a shame for England as he does have that x factor around the 18 yard box that, Rooney apart, England dont have.

Hodgson's quotes about Rashford were very telling - he is cleary influenced by the media in a big way. He made reference to a quote about him being crazy to take Rashford, or something along those lines. Seems like with 3/4 days to go until the squads have to be announced he is still hugely influenced by the media and unsure of himself. Which begs the question why did he originally want to name the 23 nearly a month before it was required to do so?

Very strange indeed.

Missing a major tournament can go one of two ways. Make or break time in my opinion. I hope he will rise above it, he has the right attitude and cares but sometimes a bit too much.

Regarding his spot in the England team his fall has been overstated. He's been better than Milner, Sterling, Hendolad (ew) and Wilshere throughout the season plus he's versatile. I don't understand half of Wobblefaces selection.

You would have to wonder is the leg break influencing the way he plays. He was once described as a the closet thing to Brian Robson by someone (may have been Moyes). That was before the leg break.

Maybe psychology he is not ready to out those challenges in yet, maybe he never will be.

Ali is more dynamic then Barkley . Plus barkley confidence is broken by our defeats and the fans. We see how sensitive he is in the tunnel and this was at Wembley. Doesnt help having Roy being the manager as well, who screamed at him when he was just 19 2 minutes after sending him on and then ranting about him to the media, do you see him slag of milner when he loses the ball.

He really does need a break and work on his fitness this season if Roy git no faith in him.

Alli is undoubtedly the better choice for England. Cannot see how anyone can claim Barkley should be ahead of him.

In terms of directly comparing the two, they're not identical so comparisons are rather pointless. I can't say I'm Barkley's greatest fan anyway, and I've been mightily impressed with Alli this season, so it's no contest for me.

And I can definitely see the Rodwell comparison, in terms of career trajectory.

Barkley revels in exploiting weak defences. He's got to add a lot more to his game imo.

Oh come on, are we really going to keep bringing Roy telling him off for giving the ball away by his own box 3 years ago up? It's so precious. Hodgson has stuck by Barkley even when he's stunk the place out for half his career, if anything he's shown too much loyalty.

He was right to get a bollocking anyway, Martinez let him do whatever he wants telling him he was the best in the world for 3 years when he has so many flaws in his game, and it's stagnated his career.

Don't really know what the answer is, he badly needs a rest but dropping him from the squad with his fragile confidence could send him on a downward spiral. I think our new manager needs to spend a lot of time on Barkley individually to revitalise his game.

Let's be honest - I thought he was going to be a world beater, but it looks like he's going to just be a good Premier League player, who's very inconsistent, slows the play down, and detrimental to the team because he can't do any defensive work.

There's still time to be the former, but it's crunch time for him.
