Ross Barkley

Bizarre that the media are disputing his inclusion over Townsend, considering they play in different positions.

They should really be asking why Sterling has been picked on the back of a frankly embarrassing season.
It's not a direct Barkley vs Townsend comparison, more that we have very little width in the squad, whilst Barkley will compete against several players for a similar place in the team. So to leave Barkley out and take Townsend would create a more broad and balanced squad. And I can see their point. I cannot see Barkley getting more than a few mins game time.

...or what he said.
It's a fair point, but I think the fact that Rooney hasn't had an impact at a tournament in 12 years makes it difficult to accept that they don't need more cover for the supporting role.

I also think Alli will end up having to play deeper when they run into better opposition. Mliner and Henderson will get laughed at again.

To think that at the last few games of the quals, Barkley was on fire and arguably one of the first names on the England teamsheet. Some even saying he was the best English midfielder in the league...

Fast forward to the end of the season and his very inclusion in the squad is being questioned and he's barely had a sniff in these friendlies.

What a difference half a crap season and an England manager who lets the media pick his team for him can make...

Really odd. People slate him playing for us most of the season.

And then wonder why he's not in the England team. That they 'don't care about'.

So confused.

To be fair if you look through this thread for the first two thirds of the season it's a massive love in.

For all who criticised Ross, I hope you watched England's finest tonight. FFS even at his worst he should stroll into that team.

Given England's poor performance tonight he will do his cred' no harm at all staying well away from any game time at the Euro's - don't give them the chance to be one of the press's whipping boys. Latest golden boy Deli Ali was poor but I'm sure he will continue to get a free ride.

Can't find much wrong with what you say, but it is not just the press who pick Woys team, because these so called pundits talk more rubbish
than me. Everyone pundit said Marcus Rashford was brilliant last Friday. He scored after 3 Minutes with a 'Miss-kick', he did one pass to one of our players not long after the goal. From then on he never headed a ball to anyone or towards goal, he never made a decent pass throughout,
he never had another shot on goal, His tackling was poorer than poor, his first touch was worse than poor. He was rubbish! So Man U. gave
him a £20M contract on the strength of that game.
A black lad came on for Portugal near the end tonight, in my humble opinion, better than any English forward in this squad, he only touched the ball 3 or 4 times, but you can see he's a REAL ONE.

Few times tonight Deli Ali tried and failed with a throughball or tried the wrong pass, not once was his decision making questioned.

Yep.

And he was lauding Rashford the other day too. Anytime someone tried to do that to Ross, he shot them down.

Don't think he likes him.
