Ross losing the ball is not a myth... I see it every week ...
You conveniently ignored the words " a lot". There are lioads of offensive players who lose the ball much more than Ross but nothing is said. Name me a player in world football who doesnt give the ball away ever. As I said his stats stack up against all but the very best.

Pressing is good, but you have to win tackles occasionally as well, and unless Ross adds this to his game he ain't going to take us to where we want to go
I will take the increased pressing for now. I think psychologically he still fears getting injured again and this will always effect his ability to tackle. I dont think he needs it anyway. If he just added more consistency to what he does well nobody would be talking about his tackling.

Lots of people on hete yesterday praising Sheeds but I never saw him throw in a full blooded tackle in his career.

Ross starting to tackle will not take Everton where we want to be. Ross becoming more consistent just might.

Mind you thats all academic when he and the rest of the team play like they did yesterday.

How often you lose the ball is one of the few things thing you can clearly show with stats.

You're just wrong I'm afraid and perpetuating a myth which has been disproven with actual facts and stats.

Mate.... if I passed 4 yards back ward every week I could have good retention stats...

Stats will not change an opinion that I have concluded using my eyes.... hide behind % stats all you want... I see moves break down with him all the time... and he doesn't work hard enough for me to tolerate this... hence I don't think he's a good player.

Bet 99% of the premier leagues other midfielders wish they could get as many goals & assist & create as many Chances as him when constantly passing backwards.
You can go on squawka & it gives you percentages of passes forwards or backwards I'd suggest you do it go on the player matrix.

you will find your opinion is based upon a misconception.

i think he's a bit better at not giving the ball away cheaply, but he just will not look up while dribbling. he simply does not pass. everyone around him is getting into space and then screaming at him, literally pointing to where the ball should go. and then he smashes it again into the first defender or the 20th row.

i really hope somebody is taking him aside and showing him this, case by case.

he is very strong, two-footed, and capable of driving forward, but his decision-making remains woeful. he's been in the league more than long enough to have dealt with this.

he needs some competition for place now... the Martinez "cooing sweet nothings" in his ear approach hasn't worked. Koeman is more assertive, but there's nobody to replace him with.

still, can't single him out for yesterday... that was calamitous all around

I'm not hiding behind anything.

Also, I haven't said anywhere that Ross doesn't give the ball away. Anybody who plays his position, taking on players, running with the ball and trying to make decisive forward passes, will give the ball away a lot more than a defensive midfielder or a defender will. My argument is that he attracts far more criticism in the media than other players in his role who lose the ball far more often.

My post that you chose to comment on was referring to the match against West Ham and the time Ross lost the ball on the edge of their box when he was surrounded by 3 defenders. It was immediately commented on by the TV analyst despite it being the first and only time during the whole game that he lost the ball whilst in possession. He also misplaced just one pass during the game when he tried to put Rom though on goal after a brilliant turn and run.

I agree that too many of our moves break down when Ross is in possession. Some of this can be put down to poor movement from colleagues, but it's mainly down to poor decision making on his part, which is a side to his game that needs real improvement. He also needs to get his head up more so he can see what's going on. But he's still only 22 and still learning, young for somebody to carry the expectancy that we place on him.
