Chairmen of premier league clubs when informed of Barkleys wage expectations:

Seriously do you think his agent hasn't already informed him of the terms each of the clubs he is prepared to leave for are offering before he turned our contract offer down.

All he's done is not signed a new contract mate. I wouldn't automatically assume the anti Barkley reaction already. Rom has said and done a lot worse over the last 3 years but still been respected on match days.

Provided he puts in a shift when he pulls in the blue shirt, which in fairness we saw a lot more of after Christmas last season, I donlt think the crowd will boo him. There'll still be the moans and groans he gets from certain fans (even when playing well) but I can't envisage wholesale booing unless he goes out on the pitch with the completely wrong attitude a la Lescott, and I'm pretty sure Ronnie wouldn't select him if he was showing that in training.

Mate, Barkley could sign a contract, run on the pitch, sign 3,000 autographs, resurrect Dixie Dean and alter the fabric of time and space to give us five consecutive league titles and fans of ours would boo him.

He's got it non-stop every season, regardless of form or contract, so I can only imagine the reaction to him from the mutants around me at Goodison if he plays for us again now.

If he did play in that scenario, which would be very unlikely, he'd be booed into the ground and completely distract from the positive 'project' we're trying to build.

Not a chance in other words. You're right in that the money is almost incidental (or should be really); but the situation would be excruciating.

That's why clubs will be prepared to wait and save money. They know we won't keep him.

It's a good point.

This is the bit I struggle with.

Some on here go on like no other footballer on the planet could do what Ross barkley can do.

We could replace his input in a heartbeat, so before you say "name somebody then"....that is the managements job to find somebody, Klaassen and Gylfi could potentially be two that spring to mind, though I am sure neither would suit Barkley fans, it is all about agendas.

We need someone like him. I think he offers something we don't currently possess, but obviously if we bring in Siggy that might not be as true.

This post has essentially just proven my point

What's to say that when Ross gets old you won't be saying the same thing?

Loyalty to players exists for their whole career, not just their primes

Both of those players were decent Premier League players and they gave our club the entirety of their careers, and they were hounded and treated like crap for years by the fan base. I'm sure there were periods for both of them where they could have moved. They could have potentially left to a lesser club who were preparing to pay them more. But they didn't

This is why players are mugs if they stick around for less because of loyalty, because when the time comes for us to show it back to them we rarely ever do

This is why an Evertonian like Ross would, and indeed probably should, consider leaving here for more money, even if it is to go and sit on a bench down south. Past examples suggest that when he gets older and his skills start to wane, we won't be there for him. So sod it, make your money now Ross whilst you still can
Oh behave yourself Mikey. I'm not the one disrespecting Ross by comparing him to Osman or Hibbert! They were two poor or average (on their very best days I'd call them slightly above average) players who never had a chance to ditch us because nobody in their right mind near the top flight wanted them. I'd be "loyal" to any employee stupid enough to pay me 50k plus a week for a job I was awful to average at. Ross has never been a Rooney but he's not even close to as bad as a Hibbert or an Osman who were poor in their primes and laughably bad after their prime was over. The only way they could of carved a career as a first team players away from us was if they fancied league one!

Fans will be loyal to a talented player going through a difficult spell or struggling but loyalty doesn't require that we no longer judge a player based on ability and weekly performances nor does it require that we break into rapturous applause everytime said player so much as breaks wind for fear of hurting the poor flowers feelings. Who would of paid Osman or Hibbert more then us btw?

Ross has had loyalty from us. So what if a few fat bald fellas in the Gwladys street* gave him a bit of stick every now and then? That's hardly a breach of loyalty. The fans were loyal to Ross when he came under attack from the media or opposition fans. The fans were loyal to Ross for most of this transfer saga despite the fact that Ross was taking the club for a ride. If a few fans giving Ross a bit of greef is enough to make him question his loyalty then he was never loyal to begin with.

*(disclaimer; I am not bald!)

Signing a deal and a simple social media apology and a blue heart emoji would be more than enough to win people back, such is the fickle nature of football. But he simply can't play for the first team while he's running a cobtract down. It would set a very bad precedent and of course, he'd get booed out the ground.

No mate, not that people disagree with my POV, why go down that route?

I disagree with that notion as I actually wrote.
Okay that was a big generalisation. But the point is still there. Many people believe that we still need Barkley. You and many others don't. That's fine. We have different points of view on the matter. And that's all it is mate. A different point of view. In our own heads we're both right.

It's not how transfers work anymore mate.

Do you think we've done all this groundwork with Sigurdsson and then we'll get him in a room at Finch Farm and find out we can't agree terms? No chance, it's all been done ages ago. Same with Ross, just as it was with Lukaku. Loads of meffs on here going 'he'll come back with his tail between his legs when he realises no CL team will want him' when actually he's laughing his head off knowing there's already an agreement in place.

Of course I know that; representatives of the club will first find out if he's interested, then informal discussions will take place between the players reps and the club to see if a mutual agreement can be met before any official bid is lodged officially.

But, May was when Ross Barkley informed Ronald Koeman that he wanted a challenge, and I presume his representatives would have been informed weeks/months prior that he wanted out, so I'd imagine his name would have been brandishing around boardrooms throughout the country.

Now, conservatively, if we say he's been "informally" in discussions with clubs for 4 months and not one as come to an agreement with him, does that not strike you as strange. A fantastic talent, well thought of throughout the game and people think that it's all to save a couple of million in a transfer??

A talent becomes available and top teams jump, even if they don't need him. A purchase that stops a competitor grabbing him. If Spurs are waiting till the end of august to save £5/10m then that says it all, nobody else wants him and Spurs aren't that fussed because they're prepared to wait it out

Nobody wants him because he is crap

This feller's all over the place. He's contradicting himself at every turn...not only over what he stated about Barkley at the end of the season, but also the hypocrisy of a man who who struggled to leave S'ton rather than go into the last season of his contract.

He's a man of very dubious character, and stuff like this underlines it.

How anyone thinks this feller is Everton class I really dont know.

Can see Spurs panic buying him for about 35 mill in the next week or two just to keep the fans quiet cos they haven't signed anyone. Andre Gray only had a year left on his Burnley contract and just went to Watford for 18.5 mill.

Why? That could indicate the board offered him better terms and he accepted.

It's a career, he is entitled to make the best choice for his career when they come about. Sure, I think he's stupid if he goes, but I don't blame him one bit for at least looking around and seeing if there's a better career option.

He's gone, by the way, so this is all moot. I have no doubt now he'll be at another club in 2-3 weeks.
Anyone thinking otherwise is in cloud cuckoo land.
