2017/18 Ross Barkley

No one's disputing that there'll be a queue of clubs to take him on a free transfer mate.

He'll go for around £30m. It's when, not if.

If he doesn't go this window, it'll be because he signs a new contract here. Clubs who want him won't take the risk on that happening - they'll have indications he wants out now, and it's a matter of if, not when, and trying to get the price down for a player who won't instantly command a place in a starting eleven for them for a few months regardless of when he joins.

So no, I won't be saying "it's because they want him on a free" - because it's not plausible.

So in the final two weeks of the window, are we going to see the flurry of bids from the top 6 do you reckon?

One englands "hottest" prospect tells the club he wants new challenges at the end of May and not one club makes an enquiry?? Why?? To save £5m?

Because he's been tapped up all over the shop in advance. There will be next to nothing to negotiate with him - they know the club will sell and sell cheap the longer this goes, as the alternative is losing him for nothing in January and having a £30m asset training with the kids/reserves.

We are in no position of power on Barkley whatsoever. When a club wants to make a bid, they will - I rate Barkley, but he's not going to walk into the sides he will probably join, so they have no need to get him in early. He'll be a squad option who they are betting on being a key player in 12 months or so. There's no urgency.

I mean, the manager has admitted that, in fairness :D

Koeman hasn't said he'll stay. He's just outlined the situation again.

If no bid comes in that meets our valuation - whatever that'll be - then he'll be part of the team this season.

I'm with you though Tubes. £30m - maybe £35m including add ons at a push - and he'll be gone.

Nope, just one. I think his destination is settled. There will be a bid and he'll go - whether it's two weeks before or two hours before the window shuts, the result is the same thing; the buying club saves his wages by keeping him on Everton's book and reduce the fee. Win win.

I would love it if he signed a new contract

Not because he is a scouser or a blue - just because he has special talent. A manager worth his salt would want to work with that talent, harnass it and get the best out of him. Don't forget he has had zero competition for a place since he broke into the team. With Rooney (and Sigurdsson) to mentor him he can fulfil that potential he shown in Martinez's first season... I believe anyway.

Better that by Koeman, puts any negotiations back in our favour, he should have said that from the beginning of this drama. It also gives Ross a chance at a u-turn and stay with the club.
Koeman should have always left the door open for Ross to stay. I think he took Ross's refusal to sign the contract personally and maybe he has had some time to actually think it through. Still see Ross going, but at least Koeman showed more reason this time around.

Spurs to pay him £120k a week or will he settle for £80k?

Genuine question do you think he has turned down £23.9 million in wages from us on the off chance one of the teams he would like to join might bid for him?

I personally thought he had already been tapped up and a deal had probably been arranged already. But if we are to believe Koeman then there has been no interest from any club thus far.

In answer to your question, I do not know and neither do any of us on this forum I expect.

I would not be 100% surprised if that was the case or wasn't.

To be fair to Koeman, he had no reason to leave a door open because he clearly doesn't want Ross at the club. He's made that abundantly clear.

Today doesn't change that. We're simply awaiting the inevitable bid.

Pre-season has confirmed for me that despite his flaws we need him. I'm not holding my breath, but personally I would love for this to get repaired and have him sign a new contract and stay. I think Rooney would be great for the lad as well. Ross really hasn't had that older brother figure since he's been at the club, but if there's anyone who knows what it's like to be Ross, it's Wayne.

It's not my money, but I'd also prefer to keep him this season and risk losing him on a free than selling on the cheap. In this new era what's 25 million?

Not holding my breath though like.

Playing mind games in an attempt to make Swansea begin to sweat with only 3 weeks left of the window.

' Ross is back in training, has participated in the last 2 sessions. He will play this season '

Swansea can't complete any of their top transfer targets without Sigurdsson being booted on. They also now have a player in Glyfi that wants to go elsewhere, has refused to play and hasn't played any minutes since Barnet back in June.

With Koeman stating the above and the possibility that Barkley stays and plays, Sigurdsson wouldn't be necessary for us.

Either way Ross can't afford to quit when the season starts. If he is still here, he will be fighting for a place in the England Squad.
