Ross Barkley is facing six weeks out with a torn hamstring after scans confirmed fears of a lengthy lay-off.

The injury, understood to be a Grade Three tear, could put paid to his hopes of a move away from Everton this month with the 23-year-old facing a battle to be fully fit before October.

Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal have all shown interest in the England midfielder and want him to increase competition for their first-team squads.

See above mate, I know loads of lids who have had grade 3 and it's finished their sparkling Sunday league career.
Me included, sure that should be months not weeks.

If he doesn't sign, surely he sits on the bench....in the u/23s?
I wouldn't even do that. If he is still here after the transfer window is shut but refusing to sign then the he should be told to stay away from the club altogether. Pay him to stay at home and rot and not even play for the U23's, it'll cost him a whole year with zero game time at any level and could effectively ruin him. This is a last resort obviously as if the window did shut with him still here then surely even Ross wouldn't be stupid enough to refuse a new deal at that stage.
