But he could have known before today that Spurs might go in for him in Jan....then the Chelsea thing happens and its a great offer/opportunity....everton want it/his agent want it....but the possibility of the Spurs option is just another thing making him doubt he should sign right now. I only put this forward as I don't see logically that the explanations are only either Wants to stay/wants big signing on fee.

It's possible. Incredibly unlikely, but possible. I say unlikely because he agreed terms with Chelsea. At that point, he's accepted that great offer/opportunity and it seems remarkable to me that something would shift his mind to being 'tapped up' by Spurs again in the space of a few hours.

OK.... but if he was tapped up.... why has he agreed terms with Chelsea?

Surely if Everton wouldn't deal with Spurs and he'd been tapped up, he'd just... not go to Chelsea?

He now knows the terms, he's shown Spurs he's their man, Spurs can get him cheaper and give him the money.......

If he had changed his mind about leaving Everton he'd likely be looking to sign a new contract fairly quickly, but that seems very unlikely to happen. The fact that it's been mentioned he's going to assess his future in January means he probably has no intention of remaining with the club and is just waiting out his chance for a free transfer or a low offer in January where more clubs will be in for him and willing to offer more money.

If that's true, he agreed them this evening with Chelsea.
Thats what was said perhaps. So why change of heart then? Better terms in January? Hold out for Spurs move? And when I say 'terms', I don't mean just personal terms (wages). It could be where he plays his football (maybe not Chelsea). Its definitely not with us though. He wouldnt have to wait until January to assess his options with us.

What terms? Mate, you aren't making sense - if he'd have been 'tapped up', Spurs would know he was 'their man' regardless.

"Spurs can get him cheaper"... well, obviously, but again, that would have been the case when he was tapped up. There would be no reason for him to entertain Chelsea at all if that were the case - tonight simply doesn't happen if the plan all along was for Spurs to nab him in January.

Ok but whats the difference between him taking a medical or not ? Its a bit of an irrelevance surely ?

- He takes a medical and then changes mind = He stays

- He doesn't take a medical = He stays

Its the same outcome...

Yes id say he's been in talks with Spurs and intends to leave in January or the summer after. It's unfortunate for the club that we lose out on money and in an ideal world he would have chosen Chelsea to give us a good fee but if he had doubts about that move then its a pretty big ask to expect him to value the benefits for Everton (£35m) higher than his first choice of club.

I get that the club comes out of this badly (from financial perspective) because of him but he's allowed to choose what's right for him. It's really that simple.

Sorry mate... I cant figure out what I have quoted or not.... I agree with you to a degree with regards to finding a new job. My main problem and many many others will have with this is, This ain't no ordinary job, Ross wasn't an ordinary footballer. He is / was the next Rooney type player for Everton, Our future perhaps...to leave would break a lot of hearts.... But to leave on a free will guarantee a wave of rage towards a lad who will not cope with it. It all just seems so unnecessary. Sign a deal with Everton, we get coin, it will help (even if a small ammount) but it will guarantee he leaves with a little wink....
