2017/18 Ross Barkley

It's a poor situation but just makes me think I have no idea who Ross is, really. Not sure I've ever heard him speak, think I read one interview with him in the paper a couple of years back. So he could be a scheming greedy bstard, or he could just be a bit of a cabbage, or he could even have the best of intentions that have just gone badly awry.

I live under a rock wrt social media, but I don't get the impression that people who follow such things really know much about Ross either.
I genuinely do not believe Ross has the capacity to scheme; but his advisers do...and I reckon they most certainly are "greedy bstards"

It does appear as though Ross has let his contract run down and that he has cost us £35million.

Koeman should take a stand for the good of football and play him in the U23s for the rest of the season.

Yes, we all think he should do that, george.

And I am hoping the club, at board level, let him rot and take the £15 million hit when he goes free in the summer (though I don't think they will be that principled happen I am honest with you :()

But privately Koeman probably looks at it from Barkley's point of view and can't see much wrong with a football player running down a contract to ensure a bigger payday for himself.

These guys are professionals and look at the game totally different than we do as supporters.

Some of our friends on here have speculated about Ross receiving a frosty reception from his teammates over this.

But I am willing to bet dollars to donuts that practically every one of them consider him to be justified in what he is doing.

Some probably think of him as quite the hero.....and Mirallas is probably gloating over the fact the club have been left embarrassed and out of pocket, given there were no takers at the price we wanted for him.

And yes.....I hate modern football :(

It's sad mate. Worst bit is it he is running his contact down what must his bluenose family and friends think. Must be pretty shameful for them but then I guess that the money probably makes it easier.

The funny difference to what we view as the norm here in America is that he'd be in a contract year...meaning he is playing for his next contract. So many players have their best season playing for the next contract.

The way the market is designed is so club unfriendly in this sort of situation. Here the player would run down a contract and try to perform his absolute best in the open market.

I suspect that Ross might be quite the home body and will take some time to settle in to a new place. When he leaves, if he is totally fit and able to physically perform, his settling in period will be shorter and he will cope with the stresses of moving better. Going somewhere whilst crocked could be a complete disaster for the lad.

All the above is purely devil's advocate and is me trying to fit the small scraps of what is in the public domain into a theory for the failure of Ross to go. Still a rat!

Wrong. Again.

There are other methods of payment e.g. a massive signing-on fee. In fact, I bet Spurs will compensate Barkley
for accepting the flak and allowing them to get him on the cheap/nothing.

I'm not wrong though.

Every shred of evidence points to Chelsea as the money option. There wage bill is more than double of ours and Spurs.

If we are going to look at other methods of payment as you say, these will be linked to agents payments and fees. Chelsea last season paid more than double of Everton and Spurs combined.

Whatever way you try to work it, Chelsea pay more in wages and signing on fees.

If he goes to Spurs, its not for the money but a career choice.

Joey Barton just said on talkSPORT that Ross never left because he was trying to ring Conte to discuss where he would be playing but he had his phone switched off so decided against going.

This is all true but surely it also depends on what value the club places on the player? Chelsea may pay more but they may only think Barkley warrants 60k a week whereas Spurs very rarely go over 100k but may think Barkley is worth that.

All about confidence and insecurities with Ross if this is true. Many have suspected his mental strength and self belief. He's just not a Koeman player.

Its not beyond the realms of possibility. Wimmer went to Stoke rather than WBA because Pulis wanted him to play full back. If Conte wanted Barkley that badly you would think he would pick up the phone. Caveat - its TalkSport & Barton so......
