2017/18 Ross Barkley

Have you any quotes on what it is that Koeman has said to publicly criticise Barkley? I remember the Sunderland away, where he was atrocious, from the start of last season. Any others?

It'd be interesting to see how strong or weak he is. If it was scathing criticism, then fair enough, but I can't remember it too much.
I'll post some of them below this. It went on for months and he often singled Barkley out. To me it was poor management and if he had to say it then it should have been said behind closed doors. I think at the end of the day he doesn't want to play for Koeman.

"He did not play last weekend and that is the competition we have in the squad,'' Koeman said. "If you like to play you need to show that to the manager during the whole week and he is trying to do his best.

"We know he is one of the players who needs to bring more productivity and that is the talk we had about his situation. Sometimes it can be a tactical reason, sometimes I expect more from Ross Barkley but I expect more from other players offensively.

"He needs to accept it. He needs to show it on the training pitch and that is the best way to give the best answer as to why he doesn't play.

"He is always trying to do his best but it is not always about the mentality of the player, it is about tactics, his movement, his productivity and those can all be reasons he did not start last week.''

"He can be very good, but it is all about knowing what you need to do. Sometimes I have to shout too much, he needs to run more."

"If I am not totally happy or it's a tactical question then he doesn't start. I still believe in his qualities but maybe its a good wake-up call for him last weekend.

"He is already playing four years in the first team. You are not any more 'a talent.' That means you need to show more and improve.

Enlighten us all, what is this "other" reason?

Wish I knew, everyone laughs but, the gangster stories been going on for years, also, it was clear he did not enjoy the constant dogs abuse, whatever the reason, you do not suddenly want out of your boyhood club for less pay, less time on the pitch for some flippant reason., It will all come out I am sure. I actually think he has spoken to Koemi about it this week , hence his change of attitude towards Ross.

And you're 100% certain he isn't running his contract down for his own ends?

No one can be 100% but he would never have got so close to joining chels if he was. We offered him nearly twice what spurs would pay he wasn't interested in the £'s

Why, clubs can tap players up in line for when their contracts expire, no?
If gangsters are "running him out of town" do you think he's had a word with them and said "Just give me till January"?
HAHA, good point. He's got an extension.

As for tapping up,I just can't see it, both risk losing him to the other, if they want they would buy him.

My theory, for what it is worth, is that he rate Chelsea or Spurs above Everton and he rates London above Liverpool. He may well have annoyed a few hard nuts about the city and he may well be getting a difficult time but I don't think they are running him out.

You are right in one sense, none of us know what's really gone on.

What we do know is, the longer this drags on, the better off Barkley is in the pocket. At the expense of Everton.

Just one more question, what is this "Koemi" thing you have going on all about?

All this he doesn't like koeman that's why he's leaving has got to be nonsense... he's bad a private that with koeman about why he didn't move to Chelsea to which koeman was good enough to keep to himself. That's not actions from a pair who dislike each other

As I said earlier, poor management is harsh, he got great form out of Barkley anoungst others and that's his job.

If that's the worst of the quotes then it's laughable it really is, anyone offended by that is incredibly weak. Half of them could be constrewed as a compliment. I was expecting more, looking at them it smacks of it being used as an excuse and being used by done fans to hammer the club.

No wonder fans become disillusioned with the game if that's acceptable behaviour from Barkley because if those quotes. I'm not having it.
