2017/18 Ross Barkley

Since this is the Barkley thread I don't want to go too far off track. All I say is it's a bit hypocritical to praise Martinez's brilliant attacking style when Koeman had better results on that front last year. It's also unfair to say Koeman simply inherited Rom and Ross when Martinez had them both as well and we got back to back 11th places... Just as Martinez did with Moyes, both managers inherited some good things and some bad things from their predecessor. Both failed, end of.

But when it comes to Ross, I don't put it on Koeman- we can go back and look at match day threads from Martinez era and find plenty of fans who think he plays passenger way too often.

And whoever brought up Del back a few pages ago- he was dropped by 3 separate managers, absolutely ridiculous people are still barking up that tree.
No, it's on Koeman. I don't blame Ronko for pushing Ross to be a more direct, decisive player. I think his ideas on how Ross should be playing are spot on. But he was the one that ticked him off. I'm not saying Ross isn't impossible to manage, I'm not saying someone doesn't need to be tougher on him, but Koeman was the one that clearly tried to do it and it failed.

It's not hypocritical and I wasn't praising his attacking style. But both first seasons for either manager gave us 61 goals and 62 goals respectively. So you can't say Koeman out did him on selective stats because if that's the case, Martinez finished higher with more points in his first season.

But Koeman did inherit a more mature set of key players in attack and a weak defence. He fixed the defence.

As for Barkley. Of course, his problem is not having a whole consistent season.

BUT just like when we got Lukaku for a relative bargin, finding another player on Barkleys level we have to spend big or get lucky with our scouting.

Anyone saying we don't just has to look at the mess we're in now

There's a way of doing it and Ronk was a biff doing it. He has history with it.

Which is why I can't see him being a top top manager.

Of course it failed, but I don't put it on Koeman, I put it on the player. Ross' shortcomings were well documented before Koeman even came into the picture- the previous manager heaped praise at a problem instead of correcting it. It's not Koeman's fault Ross couldn't stand up to a challenge.

Although I will fault Koeman for bringing it more into the public sphere than necessary.

Anyway it's irrelevant now. If Ross is the real deal it's time to prove it- be it here (unlikely) or at another club. Excuses have run out, he's 23 and this will be his 3rd manager.

Wasn't always a big Barkley fan, but surely as fans we must start learning lessons?? Stones isn't great?? Lukaku is lazy and we wont miss him?? Gerry was crap, Naismith was crap etc
No we see real crap on the pitch, welcome back Ross please stay, you are by far one of our best players and you will have my full support from now on!
Dont think he’s reading this mate, prob somewhere sniffing Harry Kanes bum hole while they mumble to each other in foreign tounge.

I believe we should make him stay till the end of the season if he doesn’t sign a new contract.
We won’t get what he’s worth in January and it’ll be peanuts compared to the money we’ll throw at a manager who got relegated last season.

This is a possibility. And its a fair point. If he has any aspirations to get in the World Cup squad there's extra incentive to perform too (if any was actually needed given our perils!).
Will it happen? Don't think so.

Going to Spurs or Chelsea will instantly carry more weight than a half decent season for us.
Even players on loan from Chelsea are making the England squad.

3 months for a hamstring injury. Rehab must of been fun.

Personally don’t think it’s any coincidence that as soon as Koeman leaves, we start hearing all about Ross again.

I’m not his biggest fan but would certainly give us some much needed creativity. Hopefully comes back eager to prove a point.

yep, according to that ugly beaut southgate, last season, being on chelseas bench meant more than being the main midfielder in the 7th best team

Just shows what the fa think of Everton, that and how they’ve made an example of Oumar, I hope no everton player plays for them again, or at least withdraws due to injury.
