2017/18 Ross Barkley

A player like Baines who goes stabbing managers behind their back in the media then limps out of games they dont fancy standing up in to dig the team out are treated like heroes while Barkley - who does more for the club on the pitch than just about anyone else in the squad - is thrown to the wolves.

No, I dont understand it either.

He was happy enough before Koeman and Moshiri tipped up. They are responsible for the lad wanting out...if, indeed, that is what he wants.

Baines stabbed the manager in the back because he was a complete fraud mate and he will never achieve anything in football . Baines has been a model professional in forover a decade apart from that one time. He turned down big moves on a couple of occasions and has treated the club with nothing but respect.

Barkley has only been a player for 5-6 years and has already been seen getting knocked out in town, having gangsters threatening him online , whinging on social media about his place and now is screwing his boyhood club over . Hardly respectful or professional behaviour is it?

There's more to influencing a game than that.

He transitions us from defence to attack better than anyone we have.

You thought Schneiderlin and Klaassen were great though, so....
This isn't really true. He never makes himself available deep, and never wins the ball back so isn't really a box to box player at all. He's a luxury because he combines that with also not being that consistently good going forward. People talk about him being like Pogba because they have similar physiques but the lad's nowhere near as strong or physical in the way he plays.

I'll give you that he's useful on the break because he's quick and can run with the ball, but he's a very limited player if that's all he's offering.

such an utter load of wham being chatted here, it's hard to know where to begin, I really loathe the revisionism in our fanbase when it looks like a player is leaving, it's kopitesqe

It does matter doesn't it... stones is the only one I think we would have been able to keep if we got CL . Lukaku was eyeing a move a week after he signed ... Gerri may be at Barca but he couldn't nail down a first team spot. Barkley hasn't gone to Spurs yet but I am of the opinion he will be there soon. The trouble is the players not the club IMO. The club have to so ambition and have a long term plan I agree, but players don't want to wait for big contracts and trophies. Lukaku was our best chance .. we had him for 4 years and if we had moshiri at the start of those 4 years we might have been able to kick on and cement ourselves as CL challengers . But players these days love the game and money and want as much of it as they can as soon as they can. Barkley is no different and he wants more money , that's my opionion.i just don't like seeing people make excuses for him by blaming the club, the fans Etc

So a player who's been here for 4 years and won nothing is going to wait how long to win something?

Success or challenging for success keeps the best and attracts the best.

Just wait until next season if Spurs don't win anything or aren't in the Champions league to see who stays.

So what if he wants money. The top clubs pay the big money. The problem will still always be there for us of not being able to keep talent long enough to be successful.

I don't think anyone expects Ross to drop deep and win challenges, nor labels him a box to box player, he's an offensive No 10 style player who is best on the edge of the box.

Siggurdson was playing a similar role in the second half yesterday and did it pretty well, but it's nice to have options there.

Last season 8 assists, 5 goals and half a decent season, completely garbage for the other half.

astonishing outlook on the situation lol

Compared to baines who was the leading chance creator in Europe on season, more assists than any defender in prem history and our all time penalty scorer...

Dave said he was our best player at turning defence into attack and I was responding to that specifically. I agree he's at his best on the edge of the box, as you'll see from my post.

Ross used to come deep all the time to collect the ball in a Rooney-esque way. He wanted to control the game.

Well I think turning defence into attack doesn't necessarily mean that you're winning challenges, it can also mean that you're effective at creating quick counter attacks and bursting forwards into space, which Ross is good at.
