A player like Baines who goes stabbing managers behind their back in the media then limps out of games they dont fancy standing up in to dig the team out are treated like heroes and Barkley who does more for the club on the pitch than just about anyone else in the squad is thrown to the wolves.

No, I dont understand it either.

He was happy enough before Koeman and Moshiri tipped up. They are responsible for the lad wanting out...if, indeed, that is what he wants.

Last season 8 assists, 5 goals and half a decent season, completely garbage for the other half.

astonishing outlook on the situation lol

Does it matter?

Bottom line, any quality we've had in the last 7 years have just gone and jumped ship as we fluctuate between mediocre, best of the rest, or lower half of the table.

To think we had a side with players that are now at City, United, Barcelona, and maybe Chelsea and Spurs, while we throw millions at players from Burnley, Villa, and Swansea.

It does matter doesn't it... stones is the only one I think we would have been able to keep if we got CL . Lukaku was eyeing a move a week after he signed ... Gerri may be at Barca but he couldn't nail down a first team spot. Barkley hasn't gone to Spurs yet but I am of the opinion he will be there soon. The trouble is the players not the club IMO. The club have to so ambition and have a long term plan I agree, but players don't want to wait for big contracts and trophies. Lukaku was our best chance .. we had him for 4 years and if we had moshiri at the start of those 4 years we might have been able to kick on and cement ourselves as CL challengers . But players these days love the game and money and want as much of it as they can as soon as they can. Barkley is no different and he wants more money , that's my opionion.i just don't like seeing people make excuses for him by blaming the club, the fans Etc

I'd love to see him play for us again, on his day, he'd make a massive difference to us, but, if he still wants to go, just sell him in January.
If he wants to play for us, then sign a new contract by the end of January Ross ffs.

For me, him leaving on a Bosman in the summer isn't an acceptable outcome for either the player, or the club, and, between them, they need to sort it out.

Probably won't get more than 15 mil for him, would it be worth it just to keep him on for 6 months to see if he could help push us up a few places or maybe have a change of heart

1m per place isn't it? So unless he's gonna push us up 15 places it's not worth keeping him around

The way I see it, Allardyce has insinuated quite Cleverley, that Barkley might have already agreed a new deal with Chelsea or Spurs and has put the ball firmly into Ross's court for Ross or his agent to deny it. If he doesn't deny it, or chooses to ignore it, then a lot of fans will draw their own conclusions, or might simply think he's gone already.

There's more to influencing a game than that.

He transitions us from defence to attack better than anyone we have.

You thought Schneiderlin and Klaassen were great though, so....

He was when we signed him, Klaassen just hasn't worked out yet, probably won't now, it happens.

Like I have said before, Barkley is decent, but that's it for me. And if you are going to choose his influence on games as a key factor to his importance, he's either hit or miss and is neither consistent nor irreplaceable IMO.

What's the Baines story? I missed that

Baines will go down as a great Everton player. In years to come he will be welcome at the club and will be loved by the fans.

Barkley will have none of that. He’s a footnote at best.

Jeez gave me palpitations there. Reading his name I thought I'd dreamt we'd got rid of him.
