All guesswork of course, but my view is that he had a torrid relationship with Koeman, and wasn't supported by the club, which prominently features proven incompetent idiots from the very top down. I think the entire place for him now feels like a crap place to work and, as a fan, that'd be doubly tough to take as it sours your personal feelings about the club.

I personally wouldn't want to work at Everton. The old adage of not meeting your heroes is probably true here.

But again, before people kick off, I'm acknowledging this is guesswork.

This is so true, i remember Mick McCarthy at Sunderland talking about this when he let a promising young local lad leave. He said its better that the lads can learn to be a professional in their chosen career....without the added pressure of family/friends all around you adding un-wanted pressure.

Not Seamus though. Do you really still have hope on this issue? He is running down his contract.
I think you have to have faith until all the facts are in place. I know for sure many on here even doubted the lad was injured, but looking at that scar he may well be finished (won't know until his first 90 mins). Maybe what we offered was short and low ball due to the injury and we wanted to get rid to Chelsea to cash in because of this? I would rather believe he wants to prove his fitness as he stated. That is the facts as I see it, but others will see different. Everyone translates information different.

I still think it is Koeman... I reckon/hope he'll stay
I think it was Koeman but I don’t expect him to commit his most important years to us on a half decent manager on a short contract, when you have Spurs and Chelsea sniffing around. He may be ambitious and unfortunately our ambition has halted at the moment.

He could easily make this 10 times better for himself if he signed a new contract, (with a low-ish buy out clause 30M etc.) pocket the fee and extra wages for a year, if he isn't used that much or not making any headway then leave. If Chelsea were willing to pay 30M with a year left surely they would do it again. I don't think many could complain if he tried and then left.

It just stinks he chose not to leave in the summer and then has been injured since. We have been left picking up the tab and now virtually no sell on fee.
