No it wasn't Dave, the sale was made because he had already agreed to join United thanks to Riaola and his mate Pogba. The clubs spending had no correlation to that, what screwed the pooch was not having a replacement waiting in the wings first to delay it happening
Of cpourse the summer spending was dependent on Lukaku's sale...just as the previous summer spending was based on the Stones cash.

Lets be honest out of the 3 Ross Barkley is the most likely to struggle.

But what we must not forget is that Ross Barkley is the only one out of the 3 who has played the club like a second hand fiddle and screwed us for 6 months worth of wages whilst he rehabilitates before his move to wherever he ends up.

People "feeling sorry for him" or feeling the need to defend him are actually beyond belief and twisted agendas are off the scale on this one!
And what kind of twisted agenda, honestly? If you are told by your agent that with minimal effort and long-term effect you would be exchanging your current offer with a larger one, would you have not considered it solely out of loyalty to your previous club?

If Ross Barkley is a PLC (and let's be honest, players trade through their own limited companies nowadays), and Ross Barkley PLC decided to offer his services to Chelsea while not capable of and at a potentially lower rate because the new contract owner has to pay compensation to Everton, Ross Barkley PLC's shareholders will be extremely noisy at the shareholders' meeting.

Players today are, by definition, professionals. You are only allowed to be as loyal as your contractual situation affords you to.

He wants to go, he made his mind to go, and yet the truth behind his U-turn last summer will probably be never known except between himself, his agent, and Chelsea. Let's put this to rest.

I remember Raiola being on talksport saying it was 99.9% that Rom would sign a new contract. A few months later he said it was 99.99% done and everyone was taking his word as being legit.

I was a negative nancy when i questioned his word.

I always had it back of my mind Moomsy that new contract = new club, it would have been done straight away without the media spotlight had it been a new deal with us

Cringing here. Some of you acting like a jilted lover, scrambing around for any justification you can to support his decision to leave the club.

First it was Koeman bullying him, and a few managers on, it's Moshiri for a comment he made after Barkley jilted the club by not moving in January.

He's a judas rat. That's that, we should be used to it now - boo him when he's back, cheer when he struggles - be the bitterest blue you can and move on.
Or maybe people sympathize with the way he has been treated and hold no animosity towards him... If Spurs had him out the door and he pulled the deal off, then I would be upset. He knew Chelsea had no plans of using him in the squad

Oh turn it in FFS lol

He has been paid thousands of pounds a week to play football for the club he apparently supported.
