2017/18 Ross Barkley

...I doubt you’ll change @davek view on this one Jake but I agree with you. These fella’s have the ego that wants to play for the very top clubs. No amount of investment would’ve changed Lukaku’s mind. Of course we want our best players to stay but that will only happen when we are successful.
there's a sizeable chicken/egg insinuated therein...

It’s a weird situation with Barkley when it comes to the fans. It seems like its split down the middle of people’s opinions on him. We keep hearing about his ability and talent but sadly that only takes him so far. He hasn’t got the mentality to become the player everyone hopes of him. The video of him in the fa cup at Wembley is a key thing. He looked like a broken man due to him thinking of getting abuse. Anyone remember Blackburn away years back when he gave a penalty away? Then he gave a free kick away straight after it, he looked like he wanted off the pitch to go in the changing rooms and cry. Few players had to put there arms around him in that game.

Seen people compare his ability to Dele Alli but Alli’s mental aspect is much stronger than Ross. He doesn’t care about people’s opinions of him, he’s not bothered about getting booed at all, he thrives on it, he wants to win at all costs. That’s what seperates the two.

Maybe Ross feels like he needs a move cos he’s giving all he can and can’t produce the football people expect of him. Maybe he feels he’s letting people down, the pressure might be to high for him here. God knows but the is a player in there that sadly we may never get to see at Everton.

April 2017.

Everton sit in seventh place in the Premier League, seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester City having played a game more.

Koeman is asked a direct question about Ross Barkley/contract.

The writing has been on the wall for some time - he wants off, wants a new challenge.

Prior his antics in January I'd have said I think he's making a mistake but good luck to the lad, but after his antics on deadline day, for me he sails past Barmby as the biggest rat of an Everton player in my time supporting the club.

I'm going to boo him, loads. BOOOOO
It's all very well starting at April 7th 2017, but there'd been from when Koeman took over 10 months earlier a manager who never failed to a) drag his name into the national media and suggest he was not focussed enough, or b ) questioned his ability to realise his talent at Everton.

It had nothing to do much with performance either.

Koeman made the running on talk of CL football. Is there anything anywhere written by Barkley that suggests he was demanding that or he'd be off?

He always talked about it. Under Moshiri he put the wheels in motion.

His sale was NEEDED for Everton to spend this summer.

No it wasn't Dave, the sale was made because he had already agreed to join United thanks to Riaola and his mate Pogba. The clubs spending had no correlation to that, what screwed the pooch was not having a replacement waiting in the wings first to delay it happening

My love for football shrinks with each passing season.
As a glowing example of why, you need look no further than Barkley.

To not only want to leave as a supposed fan, but to aim to do so on a FREE is appalling behaviour.

Lads, seriously.

Get a grip. Its a career to him at the end of the day.

Should we fume about Siggy because he refused to go on the Swansea preseason tour and showed disrespect to that club and its supporters.

Ross has said nothing, acted with dignity when Koeman was mouthing off in the press.

he had said nothing? so? he is about to shaft the club he is supposed to support and love out of about 30million pounds all to line his own pockets.

I honestly don't begrudge the lad from leaving, he's a better player than we are team at the moment and I think he's boss, but the way he has acted is cowardly, the not speaking makes it all more cowardly, why not just come out and go LISTEN I'M GUTTED TO HAVE TO GO BUT I WANNA PLAY IN THE WORLD CUP AND CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ETC ETC

he's a snake

Seriously, as @Moomin said, it’s a career for him, we have zero assists in our squad and we are going absolutely nowhere. How can ANYONE blame him?

“But he’s one of us” no, he’s not. He’s a professional footballer, it’s his life. We are just fans.
