I'm not bothered though we have been shafted for such a paltry fee.

He was gone before a ball was kicked this season, this is just confirmation of it.

It should have been, it should have been done when we sacked Martinez.

But, then again negotiations did start this time last year, when he'd got 18 months left - which is the normal time to start talks.

I think we have to accept that he didn't want to sign the deal. That's it.

We offered a massive wedge in our last offer. Massive. Would have made him top earner by far. He didn't want it.

Your post makes no sense. If Chelsea told him in the summer to wait until January how exactly have we lost out on money given no other club bid for him ? By your own logic we’ve lost no money as they never intended to buy him for £35m in first place.

Mad isn't it.

He clearly went down there to agree the deal, Chelsea saw the extent of the injury (the one that has left a maaaaaaaassive scar) and went 'nope, not risking £35m with your leg basically hanging off'.

Goes back 6 months later, basically fit and ready, Everton keep him off the pitch to protect a future sale (rather than lose him for free).

Good business by Chelsea.
Best of a bad situation for Everton.
Barkley caught in the middle.

He wasn't long term injured when he pulled out of the transfer in the summer!!

Except he didn't have that injury then
 
As I have said all along, decent player, but easily replaced as he is nothing more than an average premier league midfielder who can show the occasional glimpse of being something special and stand out from the crowd, but those moments are few and far between.

Him and his agent though have royally shafted Everton with this fiasco and made sure Chelsea paid half of what they would have paid for him in August.

For that reason alone he goes down in Goodison folklore as one of the biggest disappointments ever to wear the shirt and I sincerely hope karma comes back and takes a massive bite out of his fat over pampered arse.
 

It's absolutely fine to be disappointed and it's also fine to absolutely hate what the rat is done. I feel both ways tbh. We've lost out badly but it's not through any fault of our own. The lad has had us off and is right up there with Barmby in the snake index.
