Could you imagine the frothing at the mouth if we bought a player for top dollar who had a long term injury mate (probably from the same lads who are whinging Chelsea have had us off.)
They were all moaning that he was going to walk away for free in the summer.

Desperately sad situation we have ended up at some people simply can’t seem
To see the compete ineptitude of the club throughout this culminating in the deadline day sky sports news debacle.

Arghhh can we stop with the “he cost us millions” nonsense. Common sense now suggests they told him to wait until January meaning no club was ever willing to spend big money on him last summer.... meaning we didn’t lose out on anything.

Only other thing I can imagine is that he was holding out for Spurs but then they dropped interest and he’s now only got Chelsea as an option.... in which case yes he did cost us millions.

This seems less likely than the first suggestion though.

Once they knew he would not be fit until December / January any club would pull out of the transfer and wait till January.

I ain't as forgiving as you, Stephen

And one of the reasons I hate the English national team is because I cannot go from hating the likes of Slippy, Terry, Lallana et al one week and then "cheer them on" the next.
I cheer on the team. I certainly don't wish that it was filled with Liverpool players & when they do well for England I'm happy for the team & not the individual. It's natural to want you own players filling the national side & being the best players but that ain't happening anytime soon. If Barkley ends up being the best England player then I will be proud that we had a hand in it similarly to Rooney.

But that's just me :pint2:

Just because they're minted doesn't mean we should expect them to give us £35m for a player with a long term injury Matty.

It all depends if they were scared that Spurs would have him if they didn't move quickly. Players have been bought when injured before and nothing came out of Chelsea saying they were the ones that pulled out of it due to medical reasons.

...as far as many people were concerned at the time.

The feller never relented for a season. Dragging Barkley's name up time and time again.

Can anyone say that if we'd have had a manager not intent on targeting him but honing and praising his talent, and an owner who kept out of the way and tried not to tell lies about that player in public, we'd arrive at a moment like this when?
Dave Im not and never have been an advocate of Mr Koeman but Ross is a professional athlete who was being managed by an individual who reasoned that he may respond differently to a more assertive management style.
If Ross is incapable of adapting to the vagaries of different management techniques then he is behaving like a spoilt child.
There have been 2 managers since Koeman and clearly Ross hasn't engaged with the club.
He wants away from the club I support, so adios Ross, Everton clearly doesn't mean that much to you
