Royston Drenthe

It'll be interesting to see how he does. The only time I've ever got a good look at him was during that under 21 competition and he was impressive, but that was a while a go now. I'd be lying if I said I seen him properly since then. I remember reading a Sid Lowe piece on him earlier last season, and he seemed to have started well, but things obviously went off the boil for whatever reason.

I'd be interested to see what the likes of Jamo Martinez, Stinger and Dutch Toffee have to say about him, proper followers of Dutch and Spanish football.

The only thing that's giving me any consolation at the moment is the fact that the name Royston sounds incredibly cool if you say it in a Jamaican accent.

On him as a player, I think he will do well for us. Had we signed him and not sold anyone I would have been very pleased, I am actually surprised Moyes has gone for him because he doesn't fit our usual style of wide player. He's not exactly the wing forward I wanted to see, running at defenders and having 20 shots a game, but he works hard and has that typical Dutch dynamism in that he can do a bit of everything and do it quickly and efficiently. In the little I saw of him at Hercules last season, it was clear that they looked to him for attacking intent, I can see us relying on him in a similar way.

Much more direct than someone like piennar for example. Quick, strong and technically pretty good, with a powerful shot on him. As I said in an earlier post, if he's up for it, I can see him scaring the life out of many a team. we'll have one hell of a player on our hands. And as a consequence, one of the best left sides in the world. Here's hoping.

Sorry, I just started a thread about this but probably best to put it in here (sorry mods!).

This is also now on their official site. Does it now mean we own him, or have the right to own him at the end of his contract?

That is what I am wondering. Everyone yesterday on here was claiming it was a permanent deal but all the media was saying loan. I have to imagine it's a loan but rather a full transfer. Why loan a player with 1 year left on his contract (I know you get his wages off the books) but selling him for even 250K is better than nothing.
