Royston Drenthe

It seems wasteful though in a way, because we already have Baines. With Donovan we only had Neville at RB so it wasn't like he was stepping on anyone's toes.

It's not ideal, not sure I'd go as far to say is wasteful. Lots of left footed midfielders and fullbacks have produced many exciting partnerships. It all comes down the the players really. If they are on the same wavelength as footballers then I think it'll be fine, and Drenthe looks very mobile.

There's a few clips of him playing/drifting over the the right towards the end of that video. Who knows how he'll do out there? Players like N'Zogbia, Adam Johnson and Dos Santos have all benefited from the switch of wings in the past. It'll be interesting to see how he does.

He doesn't do the feint inside, feint inside, feint inside, feint inside, go inside shoot that those players do tho mate. Watch how he dribbles and you'll see what I mean, he's more a do a trick, skin someone player. If he played on the right I'd seen him beating people on the outside and then crossing with his right foot.

i think hes a brilliant player and if he takes to everton like donavon did we shouldnt have an issue signing him up in january. if he turns into a vdm hes not on our books for long. even if he does play really well and signs for someone else at least we have really good player on loan for a year which is fine. its all good.

I wouldn't disagree with what your saying, but if he's able to do any type of job out there it'll give us options. Even making fast, diagonal runs from right to left and laying the ball off to someone would give us something. Barkley can play on either wing, and is ridiculously two footed, so it's not a problem really. He's the key, and the closest thing we have to that type of player you describe. The inside, outside shooting all over the show forward type player. It's not even his natural position either!

so looks like he may have two good feet, being able to switch him wings during games will really give us something extra, we really havent had a player like this since kanchelskis....sort of excited

He's also the closest we have to an Arteta replacement, which is ridiculous really.

I mean wasteful Baines-wise. To get the most out of him I think you need someone who'll cut in and feed him on the overlap. Is that Drenthe? I'm not too sure.

That said the combo could be absolutely brilliant. I don't doubt the potential of our left side, just the lack of balance when you consider our right hand side.

You do love Barkley, don't you?

I'd be happy with Barkley there if we had someone even remotely useful overlapping on the right. Barkley was laying it off to Phil Neville quite a bit and he is beyond useless past the half way line. I'd rather Hibbert at this point. Coleman in an ideal world, but I can't see Moyes showing the balls to play Coleman as a RB for a long time.

this is why i think playing him on the right could at least be an option, then we have attacking outlets on both sides.

id like to see barkley and baines on side, drenthe coleman the other(ok, it will be neville) the only problem with how great the piennar/baines partnership was that we sooo lopsided

hopefully if on the left mid/wing will do better than bily

thinking of getting his name on me top, GANGSTER

Dare I say it, but he could actually be a step up from Pienaar if all works. Short, but scrappy and skilled with pace. I'm liking this signing more and more. Hopefully Moyes and co can get and keep his head on right.

love is all he needs and i think there is plenty coming his way from the fans. its a good start

You signed a good player. I followed Drenthe for years at Feyenoord. His best quality is finding the free player..even when he is attacked by more players at the same time.....able to make the right choice in complicated situations. (yep i know other quality as you expected) Hope he will do fine at your club Everton!

Hope he returns to Feyenoord next year....home is where the heart is.
