Should be a spectacle in any case.

I'm not really a rugby fan but I like the Six Nations.

It is a really good tournament. The Southern Hemisphere wish they could do sommet similar, but the distances make travelling support pretty paltry. They do have a tournament, but its not a patch on the 6 Nations; the tradition, the ancient rivalries, the travelling support.

Did you see 'Slammed' on the BBC? The story of the Welsh greats in the 70s?

It relied a lot on the Lions story of the 70s too like, but what a team of superstars that was. Edwards, John, JPR, Bennett, Taylor. Unreal crop of players.

I did not mate. I will search I Player and Netflix though. When we moved down here, mid 70's, we only got regional TV from Wales, so we could watch plenty of Welsh club rugby highlights. Unfortunately, in the process of modernisation, the thriving club scene in South Wales is largely destroyed as a functioning league now. There will never be a Pontypool Front Row again, nor Neath and Aberavon playing a touring team.

Its the same in Scotland, with all the traditional clubs being stripped of their players into Glasgow or Edinburgh or England.

Progress they call it. I am not so sure, but the coin is in the International game, so thats what calls the tune.

Nice one. Will deffo take a peek at that in the week. Its Antique Roadshow followed by a Brit Pop documentary tonight though. Dont judge me!

I will never tire of watching Stuart Hogg trudging off the pitch with his hands on his hips and his face pointed at the floor. Talented player, but far too petulant.

Massive win for Ireland, weathering a storm of injuries in a hostile stadium against a highly-touted Scottish team. Andrew Porter, James Ryan and Josh Van Der Flier put in HUGE shifts, smashing the Scottish pack to pieces in the second half.

I was working in South Wales early 70’s, married my Welsh wife and lived in the valleys. The Welsh team of that time was unbelievably good. Got to meet Gareth Edwards, Terry Cobner used to come to our rugby social club and got to drink in a crappy pub with the Pontypool front row. Imagine being able to do that today with footballers or even todays rugby lads. The side of 76 was probably the best anyone will ever see…

Would have won the Rugby World Cup if it was around back then as well.

Oh yeah the Rugby Championship. It is relatively new as well, 1995 I think it started as the Tri Nations, while 5/6 Nations has gone on for like centuries.

I mean, it's not my game, but even I can appreciate the skills of Barry John and of a winger like Gerald Davies.

That generation of Welsh players were magicians.

The game has vastly changed in the last 20-30 years.

I was in the process of moving to Newport and staying in a local hotel where Wayne Shelfords AllBlacks were also staying during their tour.

The difference in quality and size was clear as they pasted Newport when they played them. One of their props could only get into the hotel lift if he went in sideways lol
