I’ve got to say, running in this glorious weather, in a t shirt and shorts, is much more pleasant than the wind and rain, in full winter gear lol

I’ve never run before but I’m half way through couch to 5k. I’ve got a 20 min run tomorrow woohoo, that’s the longest I will have run in my life I think. I’m loving it though. Makes you feel good later on doesn’t it. Gives me a little buz I don’t get from walking.
Great stuff, it sounds like you’ve made a good start , enjoy the ride as far as you want to take your running. Let us know how you’re getting on ??I’ve never run before but I’m half way through couch to 5k. I’ve got a 20 min run tomorrow woohoo, that’s the longest I will have run in my life I think. I'm just going to say you all suck.
I would love to be running times and distances you all are. Played football years ago and had to give it up due to back issues. Let myself go over a few and started walk/slow jogs with the dog and then the back issues were not present so started doing 5km runs a couple of times a week and then was also getting into parkrun. Was also starting to do some 10km runs when I had the chance (on the parkrun course because its nice and flat and just a great place to run) then back problems returned and gave up for a bit. Got back into it again last year after finding a good physio to sort my back (found out I might be built wrong so doesn't help). Was back to doing about 4km but very slow but feeling good about it. Then Covid hit and after not running for a few weeks its a struggle to get back into it. First couple of runs were only about 1.5 to 2km and felt horrible but then did 3.7km a few days ago that felt good but then did 1.5km yesterday with the back causing problems again. Back to see the physio on Wednesday. Frustrating the hell out of me this running thing. Every time I feel that I am getting somewhere something happens and it takes ages to get back into the swing of things.
Kinky devilIt may sound obvious, but have you had your gait looked at ?
It could be the way you run, is causing the problems and could be corrected with the right shoes and inserts ?
Did 4 runs last week, 3 x 5k and a 6k
Knocked 1 minute 20s off my 5k time from when I first started back in February. I’m not overly arsed about my times, but it’s hard not to get involved when you are running with a tracker.
Slowly building it back up, might do a 10k this summer.
Yeah I try not to look at my phone. I use the Runkeeper app so she tells me where I am at every 5 minutes anyway.Times are a good indicator of fitness levels mate.
However ( imo ) too many people get hung up on them, to the point of obsession. Just constantly looking at their watch all the time.
Dont think you have to beat it every time I think is the key, too many people go balls out every run. 3 to 1 ratio always works for me, 3 easy 1 hard. Do some steady longer runs to build up a base and your quick runs will improve.Yeah I try not to look at my phone. I use the Runkeeper app so she tells me where I am at every 5 minutes anyway.
My goal is just to get back to 25 mins for 5k. I was doing that last summer, sub 25 mins quite a few times, I’m happy with that level of fitness. Last week was 25m 46s so it’s coming down steadily.
Looking at my app it tells me my best times and my best ever 5k was 21.54 but that was a few years ago now.
