Running

Did my first 5k race this year after being a lazy slob for a few months. A Very wet 5k too. Took it really easy and ended up running with a new member of my club who didn't know the route and had never taken part in a race before. We got home in 26:41 which I was pretty pleased with as I definitely could have pushed along harder.

No reaction this morning from my injured shoulder and no muscles are whinging about it. All good!

Thanks. I've tried all thing you've mentioned, golf ball, frozen bottle etc. Nothing seemed to make much difference. Calf's are the problem for me as well, always were a weak spot. I've been stretching, foam rolling, doing calf strengthening exercises this past while, like every injury it's going to take time and suppose like everyone else I've been looking for quick fix. Acupuncture is very interesting, something to consider. 👍

Can I just add, a good podiatrist is worth their weight in gold, when it comes to “ chronic “ foot conditions.

The fella I saw for my metatarsalgia, when I was training for a marathon, was brilliant and taught me so much about my feet, tje correct footwear, gait and managing my condition.

I completely changed the shoes I ran in following his advice and haven’t looked back since really.

Can anyone recommend some budget-ish road shoes? It will only probably be for 10k a week, plus the odd race so don't want to spend loads

I currently use Hoka Torrent 2 and do the majority of my running off road, in one form or another, but I'd rather get some separate road shoes to make them last

I've always got on well with Brooks Defyance.

Hoka Rincon mate.

Like running with feather pillows on your feet.

I even use them for off road, when the ground is bone hard.

Each shoe only weighs a couple of ounces.

Nike Pegasus is good mate. They bring out a new update every year and sell the previous years at discounted prices.

After deciding to limit my runs to 5k this year after running marathons etc last year, I bought a cheaper pair of trainers to 'get me by'. Won't be making that mistake again.

Tru Motion U-Tech. They are a comfortable show with plenty of cushioning but there is no support right under the heel. Just a donut of support round the edge of the back of the shoe. They'll do for walking though. Back to Brooks.

Haha only first time park run mate... done a fair bit of running in the forces etc in a past life... kids and life has got in the way a bit over the last few years so trying to get back in to it now!
I knew there had to be underlying fitness there! Hopefully you get bitten by the bug and keep running.

Yeah me too mate, trying to work my up to running a couple of 10k a week... used to be no bother but after a while off I've found it much more difficult than I remember!
