Running

I got Covid three weeks ago , recovered ok , just started back gentle running then 10 days ago I had chest problems , turns out I’ve got a secondary chest infection and a course of antibiotics needed. Very frustrating , I’ve missed three planned events so far , is what it is though so it’ll be a gentle comeback when I’m ready 🤷‍♂️
Sorry to hear that mate !
I ran five miles a day, but stopped to care for my Dad, then I developed Asthma for some unknown reason, now I couldn't run 5 yards, walking is the best I can muster !! o_O

Haven't run in a few months but have kept up mountain biking. I pulled a hamstring during spint/temp runs then developed a pain right dead centre in my right butt cheek when I was walking.

This getting older malarkey really gets in the way of keeping fit.

Does anyone use a home treadmill? Thinking of getting one, especially for the winter months. I’m no marathon runner, just purely fitness 3/4 times a week. Can’t say I’ve ever used one, just tired of having to cancel a run because of the weather, and don’t fancy joining a gym.
I find it hard to run on a treadmill. Dunno what to do with my arms. Whole thing feels weird.
I used to have a decent rowing machine that I used alongside running a couple of times a week. Found that easier to do.

Sounds like using a treadmill after only running outdoors, does take some getting use to. Good shout about rowing machine, and I suppose an exercise/spin bike being another option.

Tigist Assefa crushes women's marathon record by more than 2 minutes in her 3rd race. I see this has sparked again debate over super shoes, which undoubtedly aid in the marathon significantly but more importantly get all the running nerds more hyped than a good mile repeat workout. Or maybe the fact that she was an elite 10k runner before switching to the marathon is an important note? If you discount her first attempt, then her second marathon (first "real" marathon finish) winning only 1 minute behind WR and setting a Berlin course record should show that she's got what it takes to run fast.

Whatever the cause, congrats to her!

Can anyone recommend a decent running shop in town? One with actual runners working there.

I need some proper advice on shoes instead of just being a mingebag and buying whatever is on sale online cos my knees are shot.

Look in sports direct at any running shoes between £60 and £100. You should be ok then.
Try lots on of all different makes and models then you will find something that feels right.
I've been running in Nike Pegasus for years and I buy last years models when Nike has a sale on for about £60.
I'm sure other runners on here will have a few different recommendations as well.

If your knees are shot the shoes alone won't help (although replacing old shoes can help in a sense.) Do get checked out if you think you have an injury, and work on building muscle around the knees. IMO a lot of knee injuries can be prevented or at least reduced by keeping the muscle around it in good shape.

That said, the shoe advice above is solid. I also encourage people to get at least 2x pairs of shoes (different brand/style) and rotate them instead of running in 1 pair repeatedly.

Don`t go anywhere near Sports Direct, it`s not the place for proper running gear.

Most of their gear is fashion gear, with a bit of proper running gear and sales assistants, who couldn`t run for the bus.

Head to - Runners Need, in Church Street ( by Primark ).

Nearly all the staff are runners and they do a proper shoe fitting service.

I`ve been running for decades mate and I`ve never bought a single pair of running shoes from Sports Direct.
