Running

I run every weekend outside in the warmer months and during the week on the treadmill or a 5k outside if I can. As a larger gentleman I’m not built for it I’m trying dead hard. Some of your times shame me.
I like to say a slower time is maximising the time in the event. Does lifting a weight become less of a feat if done slower? NAH! You're a runner squire!

I’m a larger gent and have been running on and mostly off for around 12-13 years. About 4 years back I was getting proper into it and finally clocked a few 5ks under the 25min marker. Then I stacked it properly in the rain and ended up needing surgery to rebuild my elbow. Never got my fitness back properly to date but I still try.

@COYBL25 I thought I’d start a new thread and put my reply in here . When I’m marathon training I like to make my easy runs about 2 mins mile slower than my marathon pace , I really need those recovery runs to get over the tiredness. I’ve ended up running at 12 min miles plus at times due to how tired I’ve been but it pays off.

No limit to easy runs. Always better to run “too slow” than take them too fast.

Yeh I've never been a big runner but when lockdown started it was something to do and I enjoyed the fitness. Last year I got two bouts of COVID, no symptoms but the after-effects have wiped out my fitness. I then got fat with no fitness so now I'm basically going on one of those Cough to 5km journeys lol

But I do walk a lot, so the intermittent walk/run sounds useful.
Oh very good Sir👏👏👏

What app do you use to track your workouts? My bias is my experience, distance running, but overall I think volume is key vs intensity. Looks nice, a solid week, do you have any specific goals or just training to be fit/feel good?
I used my Apple Watch and that’s just in the Apple Fitness app. I’ve just switched last two weeks from more weights to more cardio so get fitter and trim up. I’m a couple of kilos from my weight goal (99kg) so if I can get there and maintain I’ll be made up. You?

Am feeling pretty pleased with my running lately. I ran a respectable half marathon a few years back (1hr 40) but I am a lot fitter now than I was then.
I would add that I am in my 64th year and get to the gym at least 3 times a week plus a 2-4 mile walk every day either outside or on the treadmill. Weight has gone from 75 kgs to 67kgs but I am only 5'4" so still technically overweight.
contributing factors:
- No alcohol for a long time
- Vegetarian/vegan diet - with occasional lapses
- Focusing on keeping a good form rather than running a long way
- Had a heart scare this year and had 3 stents put in.
- I'm a diabetic
The result has been that I can run on the treadmill at about 7 mph for 10 minutes with little/no incline and not break too much of a sweat.
I like the idea of the run/walk or Fartlek and do that both outside and on the treadmill. Rather than time the outside I usually run 3 lamposts and then walk one lampost. Takes your mind of the running too.
