Running

Just entered a 10m trail

Would have done the 20 if it was in Oct or something but only just found out about it

Do I really need a hydration pack etc for 10 miles? I run 10 regularly without one. Or is that the rules? It says you 'need' one

what will be the conditions, hot etc? most people don't need hydration for 10 miles if they are fit, but then it seems that most people run with water bottles and belts these days. always better to be safe and beware the conditions, but probably you won't need it.

Was up at 6am with my friend to do a 4 miler this morning down our local canal and across the beach. He ran 4 miles, I ran-walked-ran-walked the 4 miles. Sadly was a step too far at this stage to run the whole thing and I'm on a quite extreme low-cal diet so had just enough energy to not pass out.
Why the diet?

Did a 5k this morning before breakfast. Sets me up nicely for the day, but I find it a slog compared to if I eat breakfast and go mid morning.

Because I've spent 18 months eating myself to death so this is the quickest and easiest way I know how to get rid of it. Gonna do this run, or similar, every weekend and hopefully see improvements. Went on a 3 mile dog walk after it too. Got home before 9am which felt weird. Sun was beaming though.

Ah, death by food. It's my kryptonite too. Don't like starving myself if I've upped the exercise, like.

First race I’ve ever had to retire from this morning :

Kettlewell Trail Half Marathon in North Yorks.

Got the first big hill out of the
way at 10k and then felt sick and dizzy, with stomach cramps thrown in for good measure.

Didn’t feel too clever at the start, but thought it would pass !

Shame, as it was a beautiful day, on a truly stunning course on the Dales.

That's the Everton relegation angst getting you ;)

Hope you're okay mate.

Stick with the run/walk/run and you’ll get there. I initially used 3min 30;sec run/ 30 sec walk , there are all kinds of permutations and formulae to find your best ratio , ignore them just do what works for you.

It’s been a busy few weeks for me , back to orienteering, a couple of 10ks including a trail one and last night a local 4 mile Forest Race that my club organised. I was the Tailrunner which was much fun!

Also last night I picked up a medal! Unknown to me, Scottish Athletics nominated the London Marathon as the Scottish National Marathon Championships. A few days afterwards, I found out I was actually 2nd M70 in the Championship and winner of a Silver medal! I must say I was rather chuffed , an additional bonus to many other good things that happened that day. So I finally picked it up last night.

Todays race - Lakeland Trails Coniston 15K.

This is the start of the first big climb by the Youth Hostel at the base of the Old Man.

My eldest lads first race, in 30 degree heat and no wind.

Despite being a short one, the heat made it tough going.

He came in well before me - 40 years makes a big difference 😂
