Running

I used my Apple Watch and that’s just in the Apple Fitness app. I’ve just switched last two weeks from more weights to more cardio so get fitter and trim up. I’m a couple of kilos from my weight goal (99kg) so if I can get there and maintain I’ll be made up. You?

Wear a Garmin and use their app, it's decent enough but I've had a hard time adapting to new technology (might help if I was in shape again and invested in that.) Since I've switched to riding the bike I use strava to track that and then we have a peloton also (that already has its own thread to disparage the spandex yuppies, right?). I don't really have any goals at the moment except to exercise regularly when my schedule calms down.

Am feeling pretty pleased with my running lately. I ran a respectable half marathon a few years back (1hr 40) but I am a lot fitter now than I was then.
I would add that I am in my 64th year and get to the gym at least 3 times a week plus a 2-4 mile walk every day either outside or on the treadmill. Weight has gone from 75 kgs to 67kgs but I am only 5'4" so still technically overweight.
contributing factors:
- No alcohol for a long time
- Vegetarian/vegan diet - with occasional lapses
- Focusing on keeping a good form rather than running a long way
- Had a heart scare this year and had 3 stents put in.
- I'm a diabetic
The result has been that I can run on the treadmill at about 7 mph for 10 minutes with little/no incline and not break too much of a sweat.
I like the idea of the run/walk or Fartlek and do that both outside and on the treadmill. Rather than time the outside I usually run 3 lamposts and then walk one lampost. Takes your mind of the running too.

Nice. If you read Arthur Lydiard or Chris McDougal's Born to Run you'll think age is no factor, just run as much as your body allows then be amazed when it allows you to run even more.

I was anti watch for ages, due to the amount of tedious bores that go on about them but I finally caved and got the forerunner music watch and they're great

the watch is great, but for me the activity of logging my training on pen and paper (or later an online journal) and deleting the saved time from my ironman was an important part of my training. constant cycle of plan, review, revise, etc. i'm sure you can do much better now but I've never really switched to the new brand of tracking.

tldr; i'm a luddite

Your people butchered the Middle East and can spell nor speak English correctly. Your entire people including you are hideous at breakfasts.

Probably a bit before my time tbh lol. My dad was a big runner and he used to time it by the sun and things, blows my mind tbh

I mainly got it so I could listen to music without taking my phone, but turns out I like it more than I thought

Give or take, I pretty much know how fast I’m running now, just by my breathing tbh and how much my legs are hurting lol

I do both. I rarely run without my Garmin and heart rate monitor, check the stats on Garmin Connect , and then transfer data to a Running diary. It helps me to do the “ plan, review, revise” you mention in a “ so , what was working last year “ kind of way.

Just entered a 10m trail

Would have done the 20 if it was in Oct or something but only just found out about it

Do I really need a hydration pack etc for 10 miles? I run 10 regularly without one. Or is that the rules? It says you 'need' one
