Running

I've just this week started doing a bit of basic strength training just to help me a bit.
I don't have any equipment so I just did squats, the plank, lunges, and a couple of others.
I've read I need to do this 2 times a week and add a hill or sprint session as well.

It’s just fitting it all in without beating your legs up isn’t it? I never seem to get the balance right

I'm struggling to get into a good routine.
But with regards to the strength training I'm now going to try and add in twice a week I've read you can run in the morning then do 20 minutes strength training in the evening.

Blessed to have this as a running route, felt like I had more in the tank when I finished which I'm happy about!
That’s a decent pace for your marathon goal this early in your training . If you can maintain that pace for 13 miles its worth starting to add an extra mile to the start and end , taking you to 15miles then add more easy miles as you increase distance , but keep your longest runs at an easier pace . In that way you’ll become comfortable at your marathon pace while building endurance with your long slower runs. There are of course many many ways to train for a marathon so stick to what works for you 🙂

Started running again a couple of weekends back with some friends. Haven’t ran since maybe May last year.

First run I had to stop as my calves completely locked up as I’d done them in the gym a couple of days earlier, normal reaction.

Last Saturday, however, attempted another 5km, purposely didn’t do legs in the gym so calves would be fine. This time it was my shins that sort of went to concrete. I couldn’t rotate my feet up and down and then my feet were full on pins and needles. What even is this? Never, ever had it happen running in my life.

Just about to start my first l race of the year ( Windy Hill Race ) up on Saddleworth Moor.

Visibility is down to about 50 yards with the fog and it’s incredibly cold.

I’ve just remembered why I swore I’d never do a race again in Jan / Feb 😂
I used to live up there, and run in those hills. The amount of times I got lost!!!

Still there’s some nice coffee shops and pubs at uppermill should you be inclined…

Good luck, don’t get lost

The race started at the Rams Head if you know it - lovely proper pub.

This was on the tops adjacent to the M62 by the bridge that goes over motorway.

I’m assuming at this point I was in low lying clouds, it was bloody freezing ( four layers and a waterproof ! ) and ankle deep in peat bogs !

Beyond bleak.
