Why should he of pushed for a European place for another manager to reap the benefits the following season.

Showing he can actually get a club to Europe would have boosted his own status for starters and there may have been bonus payments involved in his contract for it (no idea if there was) As for people bleeding us dry this is because we have employed a series of directors of football then don't actually give them control of the footballing side of things and the board/owner have just bypassed and done their own thing.
