I think he was only ever appointed until May no matter what...

I think...

1) Things under Koeman behind the scenes were worse than we as a fanbase were privy to.
2) We genuinely gave Unsworth a run with a view to end of the season/would do a job.
3) Panic of a complete collapse set in, our first (Silva), second (Fonseca), and god knows how many other choices wouldn't come in November.
4) Media scrutiny on what's happening/criticism towards board forced the issue more. Unsworth wasn't doing it - the timing of sacking Koeman and his run of first three games did him no favours - Chelsea (A) lost 2-0, Leicester (A) lost 2-0, Lyon (A) lost 3-0, Watford (H) won 3-2, Crystal Palace (A) drew 2-2, Atalanta (H) Lost 5-1, Southampton (A) lost 4-1 - Allardyce was all but boxed off before West Ham (H) Won 4-0.
5) Allardyce until May quite simply because he was a short term interim option - he negotiated a longer contract to ensure a decent pay off.

All about "getting through" the next four games - they'll make sweeping changes next month without the need for moody protests, convinced of it.
I think you are completely right but let's not take any risks.

Big Scam out!

You know what annoys me the most with Sam Allardyce and Evertpm. Growing up i remember our motto nothing but the best is good enough, under the Moyes days i understood we didn't have the money to compete but the players and the manager give everything i could take that. In many ways we give our best and we could relate to this team.

Then our dreams seemingly come true with a billionaire promising to spend which to an extent we have but we have ended up with players who half of them don't care. Don't try. A manager who celebrates the fact we have avoiding relegation, praises the players for it and worst off all the players aren't being absolutely slaughtered for how we have done. Majority of our squad would think they are top 7 players yet we are comfortably 9th. They should be fuming we have a small window to catch the top teams and this summer has to be right and the motto off ours, needs to be used from new dof, new manager, to current players and signings. Needs to be so right this year. Worst year in so so long.

It might not be popular, but I do wonder if it would be wise to bin him off without a satisfactory replacement signed sealed and delivered. We told Koeman to get out and we ended up with our unpopular gravy fan because of a poor strategy/ desperation. We've not been great and I worry he wouldn't make signings to build for the future but he'd keep us steady. Get a panic appointment in and it could go worse.

I honestly think this next managerial appointment is critical for taking us forward and it needs to be handled correctly.

The concern for me is who at Everton is qualified to make the right decision

Yeah, pretty much this.

In my sensible times I agree with this.

But in my darkest days I picture a warm sunny day in August filled with dread.

Maybe it is common knowledge in the background. But surely Sam would want to grab his oppertunity with both his big hands. We have been safe a couple of weeks now. If he really wanted the job next season he had to realise 40 points was safe and from then to end of season he needed to win over fan base that is looking for ..

Team Intensity to a much higher level than is currently shown. Especially at goodison. Wouldnt we love to see 3 or 4 f**/#&: hard fair challenges at the start of matches to set the tone at goodison. Pressing high as a team not individually ,like tosun chasing the ball around and everyone else looking at him.

Giving players like klassen/mori etc a decent shot till end of season. They mightnt be up to it but the players who have been given plenty game time have failed to show anything of the above.

Making goodison a nasty place to come. Its a joke at the moment. Dead. Negative. Easy.

He will get the sack because he thinks draws /nil nil / odd wins will keep him in a job.

He needed to realise he had a chance. He is currently blowing away his chance becasue of his failure to bring some basic passion , intensity , goodison idenity and intensity to our play.

Have a crack at winning some matches with pride and guts. Open the hound hatches. Tell the players grow a set and pass the ball forward. Take them off if they dont. 100 work rate. Take em off after 5 mins if necessary. Or else $&@* off and give me the job until end of season and dont be wasting my time

Difficult just to turn on though.

High pressing is great, when it works, but it can also leave you exposed when the opposition find the outball and leave 6 of your players wrong half of the pitch scatching their arse. You end up getting walloped.

It takes months to work on, because you can't all just press the entire match, it is impossible, you need triggers, because you need to be pressing at the same time, no good if two of your players are high pressing and the others haven't gone leaving an easy pass for the opposition, all you end up doing is wasting your energy. Takes time to finesse. You can't just do in two weeks.

Allardyce will improve next season, given the chance, but if you are hell bent on getting rid of him, and want someone a bit more progressive I would go for Eddie Howe, who can play the pressing game, plays attractive football, is working miracles at Bounemouth, has PL experience, can adapt when things are going south (as it looked like they might be for a few months this year), still only 40, and is the best young English talent about by far.

If he was called Eduardo Howesinho, you'd all be demanding Everton get him, before someone else does! I would get him!

Thanks for that Mike Basset

Again, apart from "Work his magic", there is little to argue with in that article.

And that has been my point. He was given a mandate. He has delivered. (Whether "anyone" could have is a moot point, cos he did).

But what the article misses are the displays since we got safe. He has shown not an ounce of nouse to show he can deliver some actual football, when the pressure if off.

That and his arrogance, and total lack of buy in, is, unless I am mistaken, the issue many of us have with him.

And the dreadful football.
