I hope it was!

For the record I don't think Silva would have taken us down, but I do think we'd be around where West Ham are right now. I don't think he'd have even seen out the season.

Disagree pal, i think we are were we are because we have better players then anyone in the bottom 14, pure and simple.
Most of our wins and goals purely come from an individual pulling something off, or Pickford being good, the return of Coleman & Baines etc.
we have a HUUUUUUGGGGEEE squad, but littered in there is quality the other 12 teams dont really have (leicester have the some quality)
Some teams are greater than the sum of there parts (Burnley, Newcastle for example), some teams are stale (the bottom 3), the rest are pretty much were they should be, we have more match winners than the teams below us, thats the reason we have pulled ourselves out

Turning to Everton, there's a risk of double standards here for slagging them off for being so negative at home after a season when we've deployed equally restrictive tactics at times.

Unlike the first meeting of these sides in December though, Everton are well out of danger and can afford to be more expansive as they pursue a Europa League place. It's a fair bet that we'll be rather more offensive against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, having reached our declared objective.

Aside from the fact that we're not on a level with the likes of Manchester City and as a promoted side, we surely didn't represent a threat to his expensively-assembled side to justify these tactics. It was of course nothing to do with respect though, just his default miserabilist stance.

Allardyce's justification appears to be that his £45m Icelandic playmaker is crocked, but that just doesn't wash - certainly given the withdrawn position Wayne Rooney was condemned to occupy, aside from trotting forward to take corners.

One thing is clear; home followers are bored stiff, rendered even more apathetic than usual by this joyless feast and in no hurry to sign up for more of it - a feeling that may well be shared within the dressing room if the Newcastle squad in 2007 is any guide. The end doesn't justify the means.

Defeat left Newcastle tenth - still not quite mathematically safe, with but genuine hope of achieving a first top half finish since 2014. Tonight didn't change anything....and I still hate Allardyce's guts

This guy has got it spot on to be honest.

Its amazing that pretty much every West Ham & Newcastle fan understand exactly what is going on at everton due to them experiencing the same thing

Thank you for understanding my black, white, claret & blue brothers

I just don't see the quality at all in our squad. We have awful defenders outside of Coleman, and we've only had a centre forward since January, who we don't even try and use effectively. And we have a collection of midfielders that don't have a forward pass in them. We are slow, ageing, and for the most part technically inept. Where is this quality?

We have matchwinners when compared to those below us. It's the reason we're statistically the worst team in the league but we're 8th, because we are the worst team in the league but the likes of Theo Walcott will net the only chance we get in a game and win a game 1-0.

It's not so much our quality rather than the lack of quality at half the other sides in the league. Any half decent manager should comfortably have us top 8 despite us being absolute AIDS

I agree with you in style sence e.g passing, team movement, unity, cohesion etc.

But individually we have "match winners". Sigurdsson, Walcott, Rooney, Coleman, even Bolasie to a certain extent will do 1 thing every 3 or 4 games to get us a win, how many of our goals are from random shots, bundles in etc, when was the last time we scored a well worked goal (Rooney 2nd v West Ham).

I agree that this isnt how we should be relying on getting our wins but my point i was trying to make was, we are in 8th in this league because we have players who will do 1 thing every now and then to win a game. The majority of these players are still playing within themselves and are not set up to get the best out of them as a unit, but they are better than anyone below them with the exception of 1 or 2 e.g Zaha

Could it be that he hasn’t been sacked because the board haven’t been able to line up a better alternative and want to avoid another debacle of not having an immediate replacement?

I agree Silva might just have kept us up,but I doubt if it would have been confirmed by now, more likely it would have gone to the last couple of games to be certain.I can just imagine Moshiri and his advisors having a guessing game...will Koeman keep us up or maybe Unsworth? Massive amounts of money involved and some of the posters here think guesswork was the way to go or maybe the managers hiding in the bushes outside Finch Farm would have come into play.Hate Allardyce as much as they do but in the two last seasons before this he saved two clubs. And in this game being in the Premiership is everything.

There is indeed no logic, matt.

But I wouldn’t rule it out.

Because if he ain’t fired then the club have to extend his deal otherwise next season becomes one long “farewell Sam” campaign with more focus on him than the team
Problem is our owner is a businessman he's not a Blue.If he thinks finishing 8/9 next season and getting the new stadium off the ground enhances his investment, then Allardyce it is.

We didn’t need saving though. Huge knee jerk reaction. Against teams from the current bottom 12, Koeman had 7points from a possible 9. Yes we lost against Chelsea, spurs, Burnley, United and Arsenal, only managing a point at city. But against those same teams, Allardyce has only got 1 point as well.

Europe was a disaster but the seasons been going on since July.

I wasn’t a fan of Koeman at the end, but his football was arguably better and we were still getting points from those who are below us now. Allardyce hasn’t saved us and didn’t need to.
