True. That is the big problem. Although it went pear shaped eventually it was fun when we got Koeman after all the pundits, journos and rival supporters suggested he was out of our league. Ultimately it didn't work but it underlined out ambition at the time and made people sit up and take notice. Big Sam puts us back in our place as far as the rest of the football world is concerned I'm afraid. It stinks of blind panic and is an off-pitch PR/marketing disaster that is ultimately doomed to on-pitch failure. We'll all be demanding his sacking, debating his replacement and back to the drawing board within 6 months (max).

Well, I think his remit will simply be to stabilise us as a top 10 club.

If an opportunity arises to get a 'world class' or potential world class manager at the end of the season, then we may act on it.

But, we have to get to that position in the first place.

What I'm annoyed about is that the appointment took 6 weeks to be done. It could have been done straight away.

Clearly, we didn't want Sam, but our hunt for manager's who simply weren't available was baffling.

As @Mikey_Fitzgerald has said, Dyche - for me - would have offered the balance between a short-term solution, but also someone who could take us forward in the next few seasons.

I have to disagree mate. We’re as close of getting relegated as Liverpool/Arsenal are to winning the league!

We are five points above the relegation places.

Liverpool are 14 points behind City. Arsenal are 12.

We are not out of trouble.

As a team, our defending is shocking. Even last night, we made West Ham look like a capable outfit for a good 20 minutes before Rooney's wonder goal.

Reality of the situation is, we now sit 13th on 15 points.

We play Huddersfield Saturday - who we have now gone above - and if we win that, we'll be on 18 points, good enough for 9th.

9th, results willing, a win behind Watford and two behind Spurs.

This is the easiest money he'll make since him and his kid starting taking backhanders.

Huddersfield are no pushovers, very competent unit.

'We're Everton' who haven't won a trophy in 22 years and currently have the second-worst defence in the Premier League, have put in the worst European performance of any English club ever, and have gone backwards despite spending £150million in the summer.

I have to say, most of my football supporting mates have said that Sam is a great appointment, my Liverpool, QPR and mostly Spurs fans have said hes a good appointment, only one has said its a knee jerk reaction and we are better, thats my Palace supporting mate who is still annoyed about the Niasse dive.

Fair point, but genuine question, where would you rather be?
This sums up how I feel perfectly, and I'm more confident that we will be with Sam tightening up the defence.
Ive been worried sick for ages mate, almost to the point of acceptance, I really didn't think things would improve.
Now I think they will..also I slept like a baby last night...

Agree until that last bit! How in hell did we take a step back under Koeman last season when he improved our league placing and got us back into Europe?

The mind boggles!

With a core of Moyes and Martinez players (Rom, Ross, Barry, Jags, Baines, Coleman, Robles).

This season, they're gone or past it, he spent £200mill and we're worse not better.

This season was him "building" and it still needs another £200mill on it.

Allardyce is an ok coach who plays percentage football. We'll be fine under him and finish 8th - 10th in the league, just as we would under any competent manager. Just a question of rebuilding players confidence getting injured players back and buying a striker in January.
Problem lies in the transfer market and his questionable ethics and ties to certain agents and players. If he's here just till the end of the season and we use him to clear the dross out of the squad in January and don't sign more than a couple of players the club will be ok in the long term I think. For me we could have found someone better to fill the role even on an interim basis. I don't think Allardyce sees himself as only being here until the summer though, and I fear for the club if he's here for the summer transfer window and next season.
