No one will ever convince me Sam is a decent manager, no one.... we are 13th at the start of December, if it was February and we were in the bottom 3 fair enough, bring in whoever you like ....this appointment has set the club back big time.... it's like it was Walsh's plan all along.... Sam will have us around the bottom 6 all season , then "save us" with a few games to spare, enhancing his reputation, after himself and Walsh have pocketed a hefty wedge from mercenary transfers leaving the club to sort out the aftermath.... unbelievable decision by the club

Weirdly enough, every fan of other teams I have spoke to actually have all said they're shocked at how surprised we are at Sam coming in.

From the outside looking in, most see it as a decent appointment.

What is unbelievable isn't the appointment itself, it's how we got there, and how long it took to be done.

We definitely are mate

I can already see that in some circles the narrative if we stay up will be that "We were never going down anyway", as it was in 14/15

Make no mistake, we're still very much in this battle. You're going to be able to put a Rizla paper between the bottom 8-9 teams by the time this season is over, a group we will almost assuredly be amongst. One swallow does not make a summer, just as how one unpredicted 4-0 win doesn't confirm our clubs survival. It's going to come down to fine margins when all is said and done

This is going to be a bruising and arduous season. I'm not happy about the Allardyce appointment, and I'm frankly livid about Sammy "pish drinker" Lee, but I can't deny that we needed a fire fighter considering how bad things had gotten. I just wish we'd brought in someone like Dyche, who could have at least kicked us on once survival was achieved

Couldn't agree more Mikey.

The target for me is this: sort the defence out. That gives us a solid base to work from. I don't mean just bringing in players, I mean literally just structuring the team to defend as a unit. The attacking players we have are all hard workers (well, bar one or two) - Gylfi showed his worth last night in that regard and he's definitely starting to hit some form now he's finally sharp and match fit (the guy had 45 minutes of pre-season!).

Get to 40 points and reassess when that happens. It may be January. It may be March. We'll see.

Any team from Leicester downwards is, in my mind, currently scrapping it out. Watford and Burnley, I think, have done enough work early this season to have that safety cushion.

With you there

The defence is all important

Sort that and there's a chance Niasse and co can scrape us enough goals to get points on the board

We will be nowhere near the bottom 8/9.....

Great post

Well I may be in the minority, but I'm happy with Big Sam. He's a far better manager than some of you give him credit for.

We've got 8 games between now & the Jan window. If any man can get the best out of this squad, he can.

You can be certain he's already wheeling & dealing to get players in, unlike that Dutch Moyes gimp we just got shut of.

COYB!!!!!!!!

I wonder what his agreements will be around working with a DOF, always had the impression he quite likes the wheeling & dealing part.

It's amazing what one win can do isn't it? Before last nights game, I was genuinely petrified. A great win indeed, but was back to wall at times, against a very poor side. Many on here, myself included, were expecting the worst with the constant pressure we were under. In the end, a surprising, and in a way, flattering thumping occurred , but there are much bigger tests to come.
As great as a win is, and as much as it relieves the pressure, one loss can have the complete opposite effect. We haven't looked like competing, never mind winning for some time. Something had to be done, just waiting and hoping that we'd improve was the biggest risk of all.
I've no doubt in my mind we're still in a battle, but I now believe it's a battle we can win, for the first time.

It's false economy though spending out £15M-£20M or so for Allardyce when you'll just have to change again in 18 months to two years max.

I agree to an extent but i dont think the point is black or white, its also broader. What we have spent on managers since Moshiri took over is false economy, bottom line it has to impact the club.

10 million to remove Martinez
5 million compo to Southampton.
5 million a year Koeman wages.
10 mill in compo after sacking him.
6 million a year for Allardyce.
3 million to Palace in compo.

That is 38 million in managerial payments in less then two years, its outrageous. To put it into context that is more then our entire det before he took over. It has to impact on the club. That is before you look at paying up the associated back room teams. That is the real somking gun here, not the i like playing pretty football and dont like Allardyce narrative.

That said its small fare to PL status and if you look broadly of enabling factors for the club going forward the stadium is key, non PL status puts that at risk. So Allardyce is a safeguard against that.

You would have to hope lessons have been learned but if we sleep walk into another transfer window with the same uncoordinated mismatch of opinions and power plays then there needs to be action. I have been very critical of the likes of the BU, not without cause, but in a lot of ways what is going on now is far worse then anything that went on under Bill. We are burning money at an alarming rate on poor decisions and planning.

For me managers are irreverent to an extent, its the decision makers at the heart of our ills here, anyone else is a scape goat or an outlet for frustration.

True. That is the big problem. Although it went pear shaped eventually it was fun when we got Koeman after all the pundits, journos and rival supporters suggested he was out of our league. Ultimately it didn't work but it underlined out ambition at the time and made people sit up and take notice. Big Sam puts us back in our place as far as the rest of the football world is concerned I'm afraid. It stinks of blind panic and is an off-pitch PR/marketing disaster that is ultimately doomed to on-pitch failure. We'll all be demanding his sacking, debating his replacement and back to the drawing board within 6 months (max).

We're everton tho... we're not Burnley stoke or crystal palace, no disrespect to those clubs....

I have to disagree mate. We’re as close of getting relegated as Liverpool/Arsenal are to winning the league!
