Chips, 2 sausages, Gravy and mushypeas.

Apparently as part of the bonus Sam wanted that [Poor language removed] they have down south PeaWet or whatever it is, we drew the line at that and offered him £5m more on the bonus.

#GrapeVine
I'm outraged the club have spunked £5m instead of not giving in to the Peawet. We have bigger fish to fry. Speaking of which, 2 large fish for Sam please, not too much salt, gotta watch your health.

Could you imagine how John Stones would have coped in this side?

No doubt would have signed himself off sick again.

But of course, I’m forgetting Ashley can’t bring the ball out from the back can he?

When Williams stops being the cause of most of the goals we concede (and stops hiding under his shirt every time we do) then that will be improvement mate.

but we are in a fight

you're denying facts to say we aren't

and because we let the search go on for so long, and we did get worse in that time, really - or at least the confidence of the squad did - then we ended up going for the only 'decent' manager who would take us in Sam.

Unsworth couldn't do it. Not all season. Not fair on him or anybody really.
No one will ever convince me Sam is a decent manager, no one.... we are 13th at the start of December, if it was February and we were in the bottom 3 fair enough, bring in whoever you like ....this appointment has set the club back big time.... it's like it was Walsh's plan all along.... Sam will have us around the bottom 6 all season , then "save us" with a few games to spare, enhancing his reputation, after himself and Walsh have pocketed a hefty wedge from mercenary transfers leaving the club to sort out the aftermath.... unbelievable decision by the club

I think people are getting confused.

I don't think anyone is 'happy' with the Allardyce appointment.

But it's done now. So we move on.

My point is that we are still in trouble. And for me we're not out of trouble until we bridge that gap between the bottom half and ourselves.

That could easily happen by Christmas. It could also go terribly wrong.

So, i'm not going to start pretending that everything is rosy because we got lucky - and we did get luck, which is always needed - against a dire West Ham side and put in a half-decent performance.
We have been in a lot worse positions over the years and not hired big Sam.... 13th in December is not in big trouble, no way.... we could've appointed any number of managers who would not do the damage Sam will do.... unbelievable decision by the club.... he will not be getting my support

Of course nobody really wanted him or mini Sammy but I do have a feeling that they won’t disappear up themselves in the big games

And these managers are?

Moshiri hasn’t supported Everton for over 50 years.......
Indeed, but the prospect of relegation given the stadium situation was unthinkable, so he's gone for the pragmatic choice.

Has he panicked a bit? Yes imo, but I can fully understand his dilemma given the sackless way we've been playing

It's false economy though spending out £15M-£20M or so for Allardyce when you'll just have to change again in 18 months to two years max.

I once believed the Esk was the oracle of wisdom but have since come full circle around to your way of thinking Davek. That said I don't think it was solely a financial issue with Watford. Of course the might well have been a silly figure they simply couldn't refuse but clearly they saw it as a point of principle to hang on to Silva at almost all costs. Everton registered their interest, made him feel wanted with the size of the offer and the persistence of the pursuit and clearly believed Silva and Watford could sort it out between themselves. The fact Silva fudged the question in 4 or 5 pre-match press conferences and post match interviews made his interest clear. The threat that he might quit was always in the air but so was the possibility that Watford would put him on gardening leave at least temporarily and drag the whole thing out for weeks. After Southampton Everton felt they couldn't wait forever, whilst Silva was aware of the media flak and damage he might have got to his reputation by quitting. It was a battle of attrition that Watford eventually won. We've seen it with players, Stones being a good example. The timing wasn't right for Everton to let him go even though he wanted out to Chelsea. So they denied him the transfer on the understanding they would be less stubborn 12 months later to keep him onside.

I keep hearing/reading that we had so many managerial options to choose from, but was this actually the case? The search went on for nearly 6 weeks and no matter how low they are in our current estimations I’d like to imagine our board did try for a number of candidates in this extended period of time. Who knows how many times we were rebuffed, but could you imagine how embarrassing it would look to publicly announce every time a manager had rejected us?

Furthermore this is the busiest period of the football season- clubs like Watford aren’t just going to roll over and let us take their manager and derail their season. Unsworth couldn’t carry on, so what should the board do? They’ve panicked no doubt about it, but they’re probably privy to a lot more information than we are. I mean Martin O’Neill was being linked near the end for Christ’s sake. That would have been much worse than Big Sam in my opinion.

Overall as well, away from Everton and more generally about this league, the same managers keep on popping up over and over again. It’s a big problem and shows a distinct lack of imagination given how much money is around in this league. Look at the clown in the opposition dugout last night- how does he keep getting jobs? Look at the idiot West Brom have just appointed. Both us and Palace have two journeymen managers in charge, both failures with England (admittedly for different reasons). We should have been looking for our own Marco Silva but maybe he wasn’t out there, so we go from here.

No mate we’re not, yes we’re rubbish at the minute but I believe we still have a lot of talent in the squad. We just need a decent manager.

We definitely are mate

I can already see that in some circles the narrative if we stay up will be that "We were never going down anyway", as it was in 14/15

Make no mistake, we're still very much in this battle. You're going to be able to put a Rizla paper between the bottom 8-9 teams by the time this season is over, a group we will almost assuredly be amongst. One swallow does not make a summer, just as how one unpredicted 4-0 win doesn't confirm our clubs survival. It's going to come down to fine margins when all is said and done

This is going to be a bruising and arduous season. I'm not happy about the Allardyce appointment, and I'm frankly livid about Sammy "pish drinker" Lee, but I can't deny that we needed a fire fighter considering how bad things had gotten. I just wish we'd brought in someone like Dyche, who could have at least kicked us on once survival was achieved
