That's what Big Sam sees as a weakness, hence more direct play.

Don't know if that is entirely true. He said something along the lines he will adapt to what the players are good at and who the opposition is. Last weekend your statement was true as he knew the RS would swarm trying to win the ball high up the pitch and we would more than likely lose possession in a dangerous area.

Imo we need a few more games to get to an answer of are we going to play a brand of hoofball more often than not. Nothing wrong going direct as long as we have got direct players. Just imagine a Vardy type running on from a quick through ball from Rooney or even Pickford. I don't think any of us what to see the ball just pinged up in the air for a 50/50, let's hope he doesn't go that direct.

As one of the "not entirely sure about this appointment - was it even needed brigade", I have to say he's earned a brownie point from me purely by the way he has got right up Klippety's nose already! Hopefully more brownie points to come between now and next May, then I'll have another think!

The FA cup is irrelevant to any team with ambition.

Arsenal, City, United and Chelsea have all won it this past decade. We're not winning the league anytime soon, nor getting relegated under Allardyce. My main priority for the season is getting to round 4 and having a real crack at the FA cup.

Take the fact it was a derby out of the equation. Unless you have a very well balanced squad the best way to play at Anfield is men behind the ball. DCL and Niasse were very poor in posession I thought but like you say imagine Vardy, that would ask better questions.

What is really shocking is that in ths day and age of blanket media coverage teams like Spartak, Sevilla and Maribor have all seemingly squared up to them completely blind as to how they play. Frankly, 90% of sides visiting our 3rd home should be dull, unambitious and frustrate, the onus is on das beaut to come up with solutions.

I don't expect us to play like that tomorrow, we'll probably revert to the Huddersfield/WHU set-up, but like you say the litmus test will be after a few more games.

Newcastle can't buy a point at the moment, and Swansea ain't much better. We should be going in with a (far?) more expansive style of play than on Sunday. I would hope that Big Sam is looking at how to get 6 points from these games. We need to be picking up these points and avoiding defeats against the "bigger" teams as a necessity if Big Sam is looking to stay on in the job after May next year.

I think 7th is capable if he can get the players to work and commit. Hard work and I'm sure that no one will be overly happy with his tactics and playing style at many points in the season, but if he does that, I will declare myself a convert.

When he was at Bolton, I always had the impression that towards the end of a season, when everything was safe, then they became more pretty on the eye. I have no facts to back this up, just a vague memory that came back to me, now that our manager's gurning face is more and more prevalent to my attention.
