to be fair to him he did, the only problem I have with that argument is was that was over 10 years ago...

Football has moved on a lot since then, and he hasn't replicated anything of the kind since. Due to the shortism approach of both him, and the fact he hasn't moved any of the clubs forward and been removed from the post.
It could be argued that most if not all the clubs he's had since have been in need of a rescue job, and have appointed him to do just that. He certainly needs to show signs of a more expansive approach following this window to alleviate some of the concerns of the fan base, time will tell.

While I love a good European tour and would happily be in the Europa every year - the state this squad is in right now I would want to be as far away from the extra games as possible.

We aren't even equipped for 1 game a week right now the squad is that much of a shambles.

Luckily, I agree with the other poster - I will be absolutely gobsmacked is El Hugio Samuel gets us anywhere near the Europe places.
The squad needs a forward, a left back and another wide player, get them and I think we could challenge for a European place. If we did get into Europe I think we would need to look at the squad then and see what is needed.
I believe we can progress this season and all isn't lost, RK has taken us backwards but get the above players mentioned, we have a decent squad that for me is more than capable of catching Burnly and Leicester.

Also think a left-footed centre back is required for the balance of the side (Alfie Mawson is a really interesting recent suggestion) - I'm not a Funes Mori fan at all and I expect Allardyce to give him short shrift when he's had a good look at him after regaining fitness

As far as wide players go - we have Bolasie, Lennon, Lookman and Vlasic currently and Sigurdsson tends to play from the left a fair bit

Bolasie splits opinion (I like him), Lennon works hard and is quick but most would probably agree we could improve on him, Lookman and Vlasic both look promising and plenty of people have called for them both to get more game time

We also have Onyekuru coming here in the summer

I sort of agree with you in as much as I think there are question marks over all of our wide players to an extent, but I think that position is maybe less important than the other three

Burnley will slide down the table imo, they will burn out

But can’t see us catching a Leicester if Mahrez stays. Even if he does leave I’d take their squad and manager over ours at present.

We’ll finish between 9-12 imo and we should concede and move on from Sam in the summer

It could be argued, but the equal counter argument could be that if he was as good a manager as some (not counting you mate) point out - he would have been kept on at such clubs with the opportunity to build something.

When he was at bolton he had a reputation for finding ageing players on free's and transforming the latter part of their careers, so it cant be down to the fact that it was them clubs had no money.

Time till tell, its just a 10 year reputation and stint post Bolton doesn't tell me my opinion will change unfortunately.

How?

Tosun - £27 million

Barkley - £15 million

Kev will be sold for a pittance in the summer and Walsh only went for a few quid didnt he?

If we bring in another 2-3 signings each costing say £15 million + we'll nowhere near break even - thats including if Niasse and Sandro both go.

21.1 million EUROS fee for Tosun....£18.7 million

£15 million (pounds) Ross
£1 million - Walsh
£4 million - Kev

You know what Dave, you know my opinion on Allardyce, he should be nowhere near our club, he wasn't the answer and still isnt.

I do however, believe the club doesnt have the forsight to have brought him in just for the 6 months, I think he'll be given the 18months and will only be sacked if we are languishing next season.

Which is absolutely terrifying me, a summer of spending with Allardyce at the helm right now sounds horrific with what we will be left with moving forward.

Of course, this wouldn't be a problem if we had a clear direction of what the clubs identity was, and recruitment and direction was in association with that rather who the manager is at that time.
It'll suit Allardyce to go in the summer too.

I dont detect a man in it for the long haul or enjoying himself. It looks to me like 18 months has been declared but is just window dressing. For the club's part they know it's a terrible appointment they'd never in a month of Sundays have countenanced under more favourable conditions. It'll suit both parties to have thrashed out a deal to the end of the season and maybe a sliding bonus payment if he can get us and keep us top 10/top 8/top 7.
