It is his fault if he told the players to pass 5 yards rather than 55 yards then maybe we would lose possession so much and be on the back foot!

He can’t take praise for the mini turnaround when he came in, and then be exempt from criticism when it goes tits up

This is not true though. We don't play long ball, we play 5 yard passes and give the ball away. Scary part is they can't seem to do either.

Was it West Ham who appointed an attacking coach when Allardyce was manager?.

That worked out well. You can just imagine it. Theres your attacking player. I expect a goal and 2 assists every game. I'll work on clean sheets with these other 10.
That's not how it works though, if you got an experienced defensive coach to work with Howe tactically then you would get a significantly more balanced side.

They would both coach the entire team in a manner that would allow the players to understand what kind of defensive shape they need to be taking up, and how to set up when the opposition is holding possession in each third of the pitch.

Even if we did concede goals, at least we wouldn't be in a situation where we're shocked we've had a shot on target like we are now.

Yeah. My post was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek mate.:)

Having said that, I don't think it would work out quite as simply as you portray mate, otherwise it would be a lot more prominent. Although it is more workable with a defensive coach than it is with an attacking one in the example I gave.

He could certainly work on defending set pieces, playing offside, individual one to one training to iron out player deficiencies etc. But when it comes to an overall game plan you're in danger of confusing matters where instructions may overlap. Players need clear instructions from one head coach in that regard, and that was the point I was exaggerating in my post re Allardyce.

Absolutely spot on.

Anyone absolving allardyce at this stage is simply trying to cover up going all in on him with praise at the beginning. He has palpably made things worse.

One thing I wonder is he was ok playing total park the bus stuff when he came in but as soon as he tries to do anything else he's just not capable and the players are so brittle that they lose all shape and confidence again. Manager and players and DOF to blame, the lot

This his his biggest gig he will ever get...Im sure most wanted to give him a chance me included even though didnt want him here originally....The tactics are non existent...what little talent we have will get disillusioned however long he is here...If there is someone else out there get them in and bin him off right now...cant stand seeing him in the pressers glugging down coffee or is it gravy...
All the best teams play football in its simplest essence,,pass and move maybe even press a bit...but keep it simple stay composed and pass and move ...he is so not what we need...totally one dimensional..hate going the game..

I'd agree with that, I think one of our main issues currently is that it feels like we don't really have a game plan though. My issue with Sam is, we're horrendous going forwards, but still can't defend which is a massive issue.

To be honest, I'll take any ray of hope currently with us haha'
