The problem is that I can't see Davies and Rooney doing any better trying to track those players. The biggest positive for me is actually our manager who is at least capable of working on something to stop them.

Could you imagine if Martinez was leading us into this game...
Very true on the Martinez front. Vividly remember him saying if the opposition score we will score more. Rather naive but such a likeable fellow.

Gana will need go be on his game but he's going to need some help in midfield to stop them getting straight at our back four. It's going to be a tactical one but in reality they should win this as they've got too much for us going forward and our defence has been all over the place bar the last 2 games.

In dream land Rooney rolls back the years and gives a midfield masterclass which helps to get us that foothold in the game. The reality is however it's far more likely they get around him with a high intensity press and he's a passenger.

Let's be realistic, for us to get anything we need our keeper to have a brilliant game together with lady luck looking down on us. They are probably better than us in every position so it's up to Allardyce to really nail down a game plan.

I know what you're saying about their defence but we just haven't got the players to exploit it away from home.

How would you approach it mate? Reckon we should just park the biggest bus and go for the draw? My biggest concern is that we don’t have the personnel to defend well enough, but also we don’t have the attack to hurt them over and over. Somehow if we went 1-0 up I wouldn’t trust us to hold the lead (even if that 1-0 was in the 90th minute I’d have my doubts). But as history has proven it seems easier to drill a defence made up of average players then create an effective forward line without real quality.

So yeah.. we need a miracle right?

Just out of interest who did you want as manager?

I wanted Silva because it would have at least allowed me to dream. Feel like appointing Allardyce was accepting that the ceiling was still in place and we were reverting to our best of the rest attitude.

I'm not saying Silva would have been a guaranteed success by any means. It was just the lure of a fella who looks like he's got a lot of potential.

Great post

So basically you are against BS appearance? Wow...not having a pop at you Danny but wow...you judge folk on their appearance rather than their ability to do a job? wow...

It's difficult because Allardyce could piece the best plan together and Coutinho sticking one in the top corner shatters it in the opening minutes.

Simple stuff but I'd be stressing the need to be calm. So many times in this game you see our players making bizarre decisions that they wouldn't usually make.

On top of that I'd be working all day on defending as a unit. Stress the importance of not leaving people isolated with their best players. The most infuriating thing last year was the job Williams and Jagielka did on Pennington. Neither took the responsibility to support him, poor lad was left to drown.

Not sure where you're getting that from. I just thought there was some potential for Silva to do what Pochettino has done at Spurs.

I don't think Allardyce is capable of getting us into the top 6. Nothing to do with appearance.

I wouldn't start Davies in this one. He's a potential red card at the best of times let alone the derby.

Ideally you'd want Schneiderlin to turn into the player we thought we'd bought. Would've been perfect for this game. Sadly I think I'd rather chance a Davies red card.
