Sam Kerr.

Should never have gone to court. If she'd been convicted it would have massively lowered the bar for a PC to claim they feel harassed alarmed or distressed (snowflakes ffs). As it is I can't help but feel that it's open season on every white PC to be called "stupid and white" and they'll have to wear it.

Crown Court trial for a week too!

Standard practice for cabbies for to head to the nearest police station, when a drunk has thrown up and refuses to pay to have it cleaned up - pay to have the cab cleaned or spend a night in the cells until sober.

Nothing dodgy about it at all.
If you've got a woman, or two, in the back of your cab then as soon as they say they want to get out you just let them out. What you don't do is put the locks on and take them somewhere against their will. If they refuse to get out then yeah - drive to a cop shop.

It's a pain having to clean spew up or pay to get it cleaned up and it's not right that you should lose money while dealing with it but thems the breaks. Occasionally you get nightmare customers and the best thing to do is get them out of your cab and out of your life and chalk it down to experience. Not ideal but it might save the hassle of a broken window.

You can't just say you don't have to pay the fine because you're a woman though can you?! I mean I get what you're saying and obviously in some cases it is going to be genuinely frightening for a woman (or anyone to be fair, men can get frightened aswell) if a cabbie says i'm not taking you where you want to go, but I don't really see how saying every time a woman damages a cab they just have the fee waived is a great solution personally.

In this case it seems pretty clear from the video she was just being a pain in the arse and the whole being frightened thing was just a way of trying to worm out of paying the fee. Dragging Sarah Everard into it was scummy aswell.

Standard practice doesn't make it necessarily right though.

I'm confused how the police would have the ability to lock you up for disputing soiling a taxi.

What's it got to do with the police? If you refuse to pay up it's a matter for civil court.

I don't think cabbies abducting people is on even if they're dealing with someone disputing the fee for vomming in the back.

Didn't she snash the cab window? That's criminal damage, and for that, you get nicked

It’s the law of the black cabs mate, you throw up, you pay up or it’s off to the police station you go.

The set of circumstances surrounding Sam Kerr,?were not those of a sober woman, who asks to be let out.

It’s an offence under English law called Bilking - making off without payment.

No different than a restaurant owner locking the door and calling the police on a customer who refuses to pay.

You have to ask yourself, if as you say she was “ abducted “ by the cabbie, why wasn’t he charged with abducting her ?

I’m sure her very expensive legal team would’ve jumped all over this.

Nothing to do with it being the right of a woman to avoid the fee by default. Just from a practical point of view I'd question the wisdom of locking amyone in the back of a cab against their will. Some drunks are immediately sorry and will pay, some may take some arguing with but some are just beyond reasoning with.

In this case he ended up with a smashed window as well. May well have affected somebody elses earnings if it was a shared cab and certainly ended up losing more than the time it takes to clean up some spew that apparently was out of the window.

There comes a tipping point where it's more hassle than it's worth and on balance it's better to just cut your losses and be rid.
