When champions league winners dont want to play for the club then you start to ask questions of the manager....................

To be honest from an outsider perspective it seems he thought he would be billy big balls coming into this fantastic team and 5 months in he sees us struggling and thinks sod this im off, needs to retain his quality player image rather than get relegated simply for a pay day.

No fee will be involved I reckon, it was a 1 year deal with an optional second.

Really strange that he's going now, and a bit worrying.

Echo saying Eto'o wants to move back to Italy for family reasons.

"Samuel Eto'o is on the verge of completing a deal to Sampdoria, that's according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Cameroon striker was left out of the squad to face West Ham this week after two clubs made an approach to sign him from Everton.

Eto'o reportedly wants a return to Italy for family reasons, and it is reportedly that conversations between the player's representatives have been constructive. Eto'o is said to have turned down a lucrative offer to play for Brazilian outfit Santos in order to stay in Europe with his family."

When a ship is sinking, the rats are the first to leave...

It's not that strange. He hasn't offered us that much and we haven't offered him much. Let's face it, Everton and Etoo was a bit of a strange pairing to begin with. Just hasn't worked.

From the Echo -

More rumours surrounding Samuel Eto'o's potential Everton departure doing the rounds this morning. The Cameroon striker is said to have no issues with Everton or Roberto Martinez, but wants to return to Italy for family reassons.

Sporting Witness reports: "The striker doesn't need huge contracts and has proven so much in his career already that he has no personal hurdles to force himself over, what's important for Eto'o right now is the best environment for his family and their future.

"The Eto'o family have a home in Milan and that's still their main base. During December, Eto'o married his long term girlfriend in the Italian city and invited many of his friends from there, perhaps it was those events which made it clear to the footballer that an Italy return needed to happen."

It is also said that Eto'o has rejected big money offers to move to Brazil in order to stay in Europe.

Come on, now. As was said above, he's going because he came into a good team hoping to have a bigger role to play and a bigger impact to make than he has.

True, could be all sorts of reasons. Let's just hope they speed things up so we can use the wages to bring in someone who can make more of an impact.

He's been offered more money and only makes our bench why shoudnt he move?. As long as we replace him as he does provide cover for lukaku kone Naismith etc.hes in the pecking order here so its makes sence to sell him and free his wages.

No problem then.

PMSL at everyone saying we are crap and doomed 'cos eto'o wants to go.

Why are some of our fans so desperate to see he negative in everything?

So what are we talking about here? Are we saying his contract will be torn up? He still has 18 months left doesn't he so these teams should have been negotiating with us unless we've agreed to let him go elsewhere

It wasn't a two-year contract I don't think, it was a one-year with an option of a second year. We'll only get a nominal fee for him if anything.

From what has been reported it appears he has a one year contract that automatically triggers to a two year deal once he makes 15 starts. He has 12 so he is in the last six months of a one year contract so believe that would mean he is free to talk to foreign clubs.

Everton are either happy to accept he wants to leave or keen to see him go depending on who you read. whether we get a fee or not might tell us which it is, you'd think we'd want some compensation if it is the former.
