Not so subtle attempt at deflecting blame to the club:

"The first get-together of the transport working group, which is chaired by Everton Football Club, was 2021 so they have been planning this forever".

Not sure that plan will hold, personally.

Well, yes. Quite.

I had a discussion with another poster on this thread a couple of weeks back over this very line of defence. 🤔

Commander Steve is on a collision course with the club and everyone knows it.

The club just need to give this thick get enough 'rope' and he'll 'hang' himself with it.

Yeah, not the first time he’s tried that.

What the hell does a football club know about public transport provision?

It doesn’t matter who was chairing it - Everton will have been relying on the mayor’s office to say “yes, Merseytravel has the capacity you need.”

Here's my conversation with him, I had so much more to say but they pulled the mic. As you can see he's openly admitted here that he can't guarantee Merseyrail can get you the match.

With all due respect, no one in the world could guarantee what you’re asking. How could you ever ensure there was definitely some capacity left on public transport as it moves down the line. This is in no way a defence of Rotherham but even in London there are times when a tube is overcrowded and you can’t get on it.

More generally though, I thought the whole interview was poor from Rotherham. He should be saying how he is going to be banging on the Governments door for investment into the area, how it can transform Liverpool etc. Instead, he just blamed everyone else.

His jobs to find solutions not excuses. My council tax mayor precept went up 25%. !!
For a start , free travel with a match ticket, would ease the burden of cost and times. People would be happier it taking a while if they were not paying. After all " its only for 5 or 6 hours, once a fortnight"

If there's enough 8 carriage trains on the line and a frequent enough service, its a non issue. Instead what you will have are 4 carriage trains and the same timetable, causing problems at every station on the network.

Fact is it should have been sorted by the council.
Clear though that nothing will get done.
Personally think now TFG should take the lead and front up the cash and PR for change, at Everton's expense if need be, now for the safety and benefit of Evertonians.
Like it or not, they and the club will ultimately benefit in the millions long term that this venue will bring them away from football too.
What can't happen, is a disaster of any kind and then it can't come back on blues or the club that concerns weren't raised and attempts to resolve weren't tried.

It's that serious.

Action needed now.

So ST I can see why you’ve got concerns but to an extent I kind of agree with Murphy , in that I’m not sure what guarantees could be given . Rotherham however could and should have taken your concerns onboard and sought to reassure you with information about increasing capacity with more carriages and frequency.

I think the council have handled this really badly and left us as blues hanging . It feels as if the ground has been dropped out of the sky and was a complete surprise to them . However I do think there is almost an attitude as if goodison is some kind of nirvana when it comes to public and private transport . The failings with Mersey rail aren’t limited to the new ground and whether you’re going to aintree races , heading to work at rush hour or travelling to town when the RS are playing you’ll have seen it play out in real time .

My concern is that we as blues have some reasonable and well founded concerns but various mischief makers and RS seem to
Have jumped on in it in a bid to present our ground as a dangerous addition to the city’s waterfront .

just for clarity I’m not exonerating those in authority as I think they’ve massively dropped the ball and need to get their act in gear and soon .
