Celtic are a much bigger club than Leicester

It's not even close

It was never in any dispute, unfortunately for Celtic they play in a poorly financed league that has very little selling power and consequently has to survive on a relative pittance as far as TV revenue goes.

Its the premier league that is another world, the mega millions pouring in and making even middle and lower ranked clubs amongst the richest twenty or thirty clubs in Europe.

This wealth has helped them, the money in English football has changed everything. I am not only talking about the motivation of personal finance for managers and players, but the resources to sign the best talent, develop the most productive Academies, offer longer contracts to those who will be pursued by the Champions League clubs. Difficult as it will be for Celtic to accept, Leicester – like all Premier League clubs – are more equipped to meet the ambitions of a top manager. All of the best coaches want to be here, and although there is understandable disappointment at the timing of Rodgers’ move back to the Premier League, no-one can be really surprised by it. He was always going to be back

I agree with you. He was always going back. All he had to do was wait 10 weeks, and while people would have been disappointed he would have left with everyone’s best wishes.

For a man who kept banging on about his love for Celtic, his decision to leave the club at this stage of the is what is angering the Celtic support. From what I;be been told he’s the only manager to walk out on Celtic during a season in the clubs history.

I think some of the vitriol aimed at him has been way over the top, but he was out of order to leave the club at the business end of the season. He’s gone from being a hero at the club to someone who won’t be welcome back, all for the sake of a couple of months.

We still don't know if Leicester gave him the ultimatum or not

If they said "it's now or never", then you can kind of understand it, because it might have been his only chance. There's no guarantee there'd be a premier league job free in the summer at a club who would want him

If, as rumoured, they were happy with him to finish the season and start in summer, then he's a massive tit IMO

He could have had his dream move whilst also doing right by Celtic in that scenario

I'm sure the truth will come out some day

After winning seven trophies for Celtic in the short time he was there I think Brendan deserves a little more respect and gratitude than he's getting from the Parkhead faithful.

While some of the vitriol aimed at him has gone way too far, you can’t bang on about how this is your dream job, and how much you love the club blah blah blah, then leave the club you claim to love at this stage in the season. He’s always going to get criticised for that, and deservedly so, in my opinion.

I don't know mate

If Leicester said it was okay for him to stay till the end of the season but he insisted on leaving right away regardless, then he's a bad bell in my books as he should have seen out the season

Imagine a similar situation with Everton? We'd all be fuming

As I said earlier, if Leicester demanded he come right away then I'd have some sympathy for his position, because he clearly wanted back in the Premier League and it would have been really difficult to turn that down if he'd been given an ultimatum like that. If Leicester were happy for him to stay till the end of the season though, then he's left Celtic high and dry here to suit his own selfish agenda, in which case he deserves to be pilloried

I still firmly believe there was an agreement with the Celtic board when he took the job that he would be released if anyone from the EPL came calling that is why they never stood in his way and thanked him and wished them all the best The Celtic board with their biscuit tin mentality will be made up with their 5/6 million for Brendan as any half decent manager including Lennon will win trophies there with their dominance and finances over Rangers and the likes.
In short the hoops support should be directing their ire at the board, as Rodgers was always going to leave when more money came calling.

I can't see the Celts losing the title despite Rangers free-scoring ways of late.
They weren't great at Tynecastle against ten men but they just have better players in the squad than anyone else. Neil Lennon shouldn't have too much work to do.
Having said that I'm looking to the Hibbies to give them a biffing tomorrow!

Yes on the surface and from what is actually in the public domain, it does seem a rather heartless way to act, Leicester aren't going down in a month of Sundays, they can't in all likelihood achieve much, perhaps at a stretch seventh, and a possible Europa Cup place - providing City or United win the FA Cup, even that seventh place and Europa qualification is so often a poisoned chalice and one they may really want to avoid.

It perhaps leaves the question what isn't so readily available in the public domain that may have compelled him to leave at this particular juncture rather than what you would think would be the obvious option of a small delay?

At this point it is only speculation as I can't pretend to know and am only guessing, Leicester may have insisted its now or someone else may be appointed, perhaps he needed to be in position to persuade their big stars Harry Maguire and Chilwell of his commitment to Leicester and planning going forward, both men will be targets in the summer and could conceivably have to move depending on the club.

Otherwise you could easily have added more honours had he stayed until the end of the season, which is the only shadow over the appointment. It is hard to believe Rodgers did not intend to stay until May. At least he had left Celtic in a fantastic position, eight points clear. He must have calculated there are key members of Leicester squad considering their future so he needed to make his mark sooner rather than later.

Certainly something has persuaded him because it was so obvious he would if possible want to stay a little longer.

What a massive IF, the likelihood to my mind is there probably were compelling reasons for him to have to move now rather than do the absolutely stunningly obvious and delay a short while.

It maybe speculation as to what these were maybe, but the likelihood is nevertheless that they exist.

Rumours from the Leicester end strongly suggest that they were fine with him seeing out the season, so it's not a massive if in the slightest
