Yes I mean I'm not as keen an observer as you but that appointment seemed odd, I always thought Warbutton was a bood appointment that didn't work out.
In fairness to Celtic fans, Gerrard has been there 3 years, been competing for 9 domestic trophies and won his 1st at the 9th time of asking. So while you can't knock him doing it, I'm not sure it's been a universal success. As you've said,a squad with Rangers money, history, tradition etmc is going to win trophies eventually, and 1 in 9, even though it's the league I don't think is a dazzling return. It probably feels like I'm getting at him, and I'm quite open in saying I am not very objective with him, but it's taken him a lot of time to win his trophy.
I think Corona-virus came at the right time for him. I seem to remember they were close to imploding last season and it looked like he was close to being removed. But I always think you make your own luck, and he's certainly maximised that advantage.
In a lot of ways what he does next will define him as a manager, They were always going to win a trophy and the league, and they look a long way ahead of Celtic who look in a bit of a rebuild, so the challenge is on him now to win more trophies next season. If he able to keep improving while on top. It's probably been 25 years since Rangers really were able to do that, and have probably been in Celtic's shadow a bit this century so there is a moment here where he can potentially redressthe balance a bit. Maybe win 2 or 3 in a row.
If I was him, I'd avoid the Liverpool job like the plague. He seems to get the psyche of Glasgow, and Rangers. It's not for everyone. A bit like Liverpool, but to be honest probably more intense and parochial. If you kind of get that atmosphere though you'll thrive. You see some people relish it, others are crushed by it. On both sides Albertz, Gasscoigne, Sutton, Hartson, Lennon, Barry Ferguson etc all great players but seemed to go up a level in that Old Firm atmosphere. He's taken to it, and if I were him I'd stay where I was for a bit.
