The Arabs are Dundee Utd mate, but yeah, Aberdeen were also an amazing team in the 80s. A lof of people forget or didn't know that Alex Ferguson won a European trophy with them
Every day a school day!! I knew they were called the Dons. When I saw Arabs I thought it was a pun on the oil industry, the oil rigs and the connection with Aberdeen. Wll done Dundee United who started life as Dundee Hibernian.

I *believe* Dubdee Utd are called the Arabs because there was a time when their pitch was in extremely bad condition and to make it somewhere close to playable, truck loads of sand were spread over the pitch. Hence, the Arabs.
They're also known as The Terrors, or The Tangerine Terrors. As someone has already mentioned, they were a formidable team in the 80's. I understand that they even gave Barcelona a bit of a game during this time.

I remember them in the 80s. In fact I am old enough to remember Andy Gray with them in the early 70s. Yes they really were a challenge to the Glasgow domination.

The Arabs nickname now makes sense, but that could be applied to most Clubs in the winters of the 70s and 80s. I particularly remember Derby's pitch which was described as like a cabbage patch. Elland Road, analfield, even GP at times

Still think this stands but Dundee Utd are still the only team never to have been beaten by Barcelona in european competitions and won all 4 games theyve played.

Let us not forget equally Dundee Utd's European games were memorable midweek highlights, wee luggy, socks down and ball at his feet was a sight to behold.
It is also nice to see Al my friend someone referring to events from memory and not quoting times and dates from Wikipedia, no names, no pack drill.
Their home leg final was live I think .
I remember nearly all the Arabs staying till the death to give both teams a rousing applause.
The EC roma semi afternoon kick off was live ,I think, I seem to recall watching bits.

87 Eufa cup final was definitely live, I remember watching it. Not sure about the 84 EC semi though.
I wish Roma could have fixed the final the same way they did for the semi ☹️

Hibs beat them over two legs in the fairs cup in 1961. I don't think they've played apart from friendlies since then.
Really? I had no idea. It just shows you how much the money has changed football. There's no way most teams from Scotland would be in a position to play teams like Barca, never-ending beating them
