2021/22 Seamus Coleman

Seamus yesterday made a massive statement to those behind him in the pecking order: "come and take this shirt off me".

….he’s a top pro, Dave. His issue as he’s got older is injuries, it takes such a toll playing at this level for so long. He’ll know his game time needs to be carefully managed but he won’t be found wanting for application.

interesting now is who sits behind him in the queue. We know your opinion of Patterson and Kenny has been getting unexpected game time since the manager you adored left.

Kenny’s contract is due up in a few months. He’s done ok for Lampard but I think it would be a mistake giving him an extension. I like Patterson, I hope he gets the opportunity to prove he’s the next cab on the rank.

To get soppy for a second, Seamus to many people is the epitome of Everton Football Club. For myself you could probably tell by my picture here that I just love the man and seeing his face after that goal yesterday honestly the emotion was just unreal.

I’m Irish too, so having a player like him to represent Everton is amazing, he’s very much like Roy Keane, not the “hard man” character he plays up to but the man himself. A good man who demands the highest of standards and tries his best to help the team, even playing through pain and injury.

I’ve also of course not been able to make it to Goodison for years now at this stage with the way the world has gone but even through the tough times having a lad like Seamus leading us through thick and thin, with his clear passion for the club is enough to keep any fan from anywhere feeling involved.

In an era where there are a lot of players that don’t really give a toss aside from money or even worse have done heinous things, unfortunately at our club we’ve got people who’ve done both at the minute, it’s great to have a man leading us that is just like us, he cares and he’ll give his all even if he’s not on that same level anymore.

The worst thing about the criticism he gets is he’ll know more than anyone that his performances should be better but some fans just don’t care, sometimes that criticism from the fans go beyond him as a player and go to him as a man and that’s where I can’t stand it. In this day and age we’re lucky to have someone so committed, we won’t quite know what we have until it’s gone.

I think in this generation of Everton fans there are 2 players more than any that carry the club’s hearts on their sleeve, Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman. I think fans in Liverpool will naturally gravitate to Baines and rightfully so but for myself personally I’ve seen no greater Evertonian than Seamus Coleman in my lifetime and I do hope that once he does hang up his boots he’s given the respect and praise that he more than deserves.
Brilliant post. A pity you didn't also have the privilege of meeting Peter Farrell. There is even a bit of resemblance between the two.

Know it’s already been posted but for me this is already one of the iconic Everton images.

A mid-season home win against Leeds might not go down in history among our biggest matches but no one knew more than this guy how important that game yesterday was.

52 years following this club and I have never seen such passion. We were over for a Sunderland game that we lost I think in 2009 and he apologized to us. John Bailey did the same to me after the 0-5 to the rs. Two of the most passionate Evertonian's along with Labone, Ball, Reid and Farrell.

My God I love this Club in spite of a small number of idiots.

Not sure about Kenny. The thing is a new contract for a year might be the best way forward as it would be one more player we wouldn't have to replace this summer and can allow those funds available tobe used in the right areas. I wouldn't be giving him more than a years extension though.

….why would he need replacing when we’ve just paid £15m for Patterson? Regardless, I doubt he’d be willing to sign anything but a 3 year deal.

I don't think giving Kenny a new deal would be silly. Coleman is at the age now were one more injury could finish him.

If Kenny is happy to stay and be a utility man for us I think we should.

Obviously at the moment lampard doesn't think patterson is ready or he'd be playing him. Agreed he probably wouldn't take a one year deal if not then he can go.

Local, supporter and cheaper than a replacement we aren't going to have full squads if international names only a few do.
Like Davies there's room in an extended squad, which we should need to reach our potential, for a few of our own like that, not the Jeffers, Baxters of the world but committed loyal and honest lads to help blend in the better players.

His celebrations are the stuff of legend
Loved the one after the Swansea strike (although they have edited out him beating the advertising hoardings!
The funniest might be the Oviedo Man United goal, doesn’t know which way to run lol

That is the problem especially after yesterday's game.
