Not many people do that in real life and tbh sports people are conditioned to see bad patches as blips and that the next game is going to be great. It is fair to say that although the steady decline was there for all to see, it's dropped off the cliff only recently. Managers are paid to be the ones to tell you that you're done at this level, it looks like Benitez will do that.

Baines did not wait for the manager but held his hand up.

Didn't we already have Digne by that time? He probably saw the writing on the wall and didn't want to be a replacement. Tbf you're right that's what it should be like and who know what Coleman will do if we do sign this boy from Rangers and he turns out to be decent.

Didn’t realise he’d said this. What a load of crock. Just retire already if you’re this supposed leader.

Coleman happy to take criticism to spare new players

Everton captain Seamus Coleman is happy to bear the brunt of criticism if it means younger or newer members of the squad can escape it.
The 33-year-old will enter his 14th year at the club on Saturday and is 37 matches short of the 400 mark but his performances, like that of the team, have been the subject of some fans' anger.
With the club failing to address the need for cover at right-back - although they remain interested in Rangers' Nathan Patterson - Coleman has been pressed into action when not fully fit or in need of a rest and that has affected his effectiveness.
"There were a few occasions in the past when my form was under scrutiny," said Coleman in an interview with Everton's matchday programme for this weekend's scheduled visit of Brighton.
"I am captain of the club and a familiar face. I would rather it be me than someone coming through, or a player who has just signed for the club.
"I can take it on the chin and understand you have to accept the good and bad together.
"You can't just read about the good times. You have to take the stick when it comes.
"When you go to the training ground, you do your work and put in your effort. The noise outside of that, in the best possible way, doesn't affect me.
"I know what I am doing to try to have a positive impact on the team every day.
"I might not be the playing presence I was at 23 or 24, but as a captain and in training every day, I am giving my all, approaching it as if I was a 22-year-old."

That’s rich because when he was taking the abuse at Wolves the other week he spat his dummy out and started arguing with the fans. Sham of a captain, sick to death of his pointless sound bites.

See that, it’s all good people saying because he’s been a good servant for us he doesn’t deserve stick but for me. You listen to him saying that and then listen to Gary neville say he knew he was finished and didn’t want to spare his team mates anymore poor displays that were costing his club points then I am sorry he should have more balls and admit his times up. Not his fault that during a bad injury our joke of a chairman offered him a five year contract ( another joke decision btw). But he shouldn’t be playing premier league football at right back. Never mind left back.

He needs to retire from this level of football he is nowhere near prem standard and has not been for sometime this also applies to Rondon Holgate Keane Iwobi Davies Kenny & Gbamin, not one player from them lot would get into the Norwich team so why do we have to have them
