I’m still hoping Patterson will be that player but the injuries are worrying.

An actual fit striker next season takes the pressure off changing the defence in this window.
Patterson: I've said before mate that those injuries dont come out of the blue. They occur when a player is poor positionally and have to make adjustemnts at great speed. He gets knee and ankle strains...jarring injuries because he's trying to make good a poor starting position and then pushing off in the opposite direction.

Either he's coached better here or elsewhere because if he isn't these injuries will be a feature of his career. The lad hasnlt got pitch savvy and he needs to find it.

Good prospect - athletic and has pace and can carry the ball - but just that IMO.

Only argument with that is Mitoma. He was being rinsed but found his feet. He played him like a fiddle after the first few minutes.

Your very valid observation accepted though.

He rolled his ankle in training and got clattered by Pickford which damaged his knee

Good agenda though brah

His injuries have a pattern to them. They're not breaks, so he isn't 'made out of glass' as some suspect / fear; they are strains and tears due to the effect direction changing at speed has on his knee and ankle ligaments.

If he's a player who can play the position properly then they dont happen.

It's that simple.

Do we uhm dare bring up Coleman's various strains and tears then?

Coleman must really not know how to play the position properly.

Someone walloped him in training, then Pickford steam rolls him

But yeah, Daves agenda takes priority

I love me some Seamus but by God, are we really considering going into another season without signing a replacement for him?

In his aged 35 season? After another significant injury?
Have you forgotten about Patterson. Seamus will be his back up this season I feel. And if he isn't then Patterson isn't progressing the way I thought.

And absolute no brainer offering Seamus a new contract.

Patterson was on the bench for Rangers more often than he started in the 1st half of the 21/22 season, and after signing for us in the January window of that season he played 232 minutes of premier league football in 6 matches; all substitute appearances before doing his ankle in training.

This year he played 19 matches with his season interrupted by 3 separate injuries: an ankle kept him out all of October, a knee ligament issue kept him out January - April, and he is currently rehabilitating a hamstring issue which was sustained in the 1st half vs Wolves in Late May.

In that albeit limited sample size, he has not provided an assist or goal. I have however seen him frequently out of position, and although a quick dribbler while in possession, lack the ability to a put in a half decent cross.

Patterson appears to be an injury prone athlete with good stamina, poor positional awareness and a raw technical skill set.

Unless we sign a replacement for Seamus over the summer, it is nailed on he will be our starter, again, at 35, after yet another serious injury. I love the bloke but our board is clearly drunk at the wheel.

Please state your qualifications in, sports science, bio mechanics and physiology.

I fear you may be wasted in your current role as the resident agony aunt in the Morning Star.

That's a 17 year career and he's had about twice as many injuries as Patterson right now.

A smoking gun without any smoke.

Why does career length matter? Surely if he’s picking up strains and tears he must, as you say, not know how to play his position :)

Coleman was playing football for 6 years before he got any injuries at all. Patterson has had 5 in his first 3 'seasons' - he;s played less than 40 matches in his career at senior level...that's one serious injury every 8 games, so that tells me that his injuroes aren't due to fatigue...which is what Coleman's injuries have been about.

You have to learn where to be on a pitch and not have to rely on athleticism to get out of a mess youlve placed yourself in...straining to do that results in lots of injuries, even for someone whose played less than 40 games.
