2022/23 Seamus Coleman

Coleman has been abysmal for about 3-4 seasons....up until last season.

That was his best season in a long long time. I had him down as 3rd best player of the season (behind Tarkowski and Pickford) and I think he deserves a lot of credit for that. He got himself as fit as could be and performed consistently well.

If he could sustain that level, he'd deserve another season. Depends how much that injury has taken its toll.

Before the latest injury he certainly was last season.

Zat couldn’t possibly be having a little case of confirmation bias though. That’s not like him.

@maccavennie hits the nail on the head here.

3-4 seasons of poor performances. Other posters highlighting during that period a perceived effort in tracking back.

One year left on his 2 year extension and had a good season -- when there was no reason not to be at that level for the past 3-4 seasons.

When others magically perform as their contracts are about to expire, whats the difference?

If he gets an extension, will we see last seasons performances or the "abysmal" ones which became standard?

If he gets a new contract, people need to prepare for relegation. This club can never develop if it insists on being a sentimental charity. Sure, why not offer a new deal to Joe Royle or Peter Reid while we're at it.

Now is the time to be ruthless - and show Seamus that we have collectively developed standards that he once stood for.

I think he's shown enough to warrant a new deal. I hope we finally see Patterson make the spot his next season, but I'm confident Coleman will come in and do a job when needed.

I think people have done enough preparing for relegation tbh.

He's going to take Howard's PL appearance record for sure then break through the 400 total appearance mark.

If he's handed a 2 year deal I wouldn't rule out him getting 400 PL appearances.

A well earned contract offer. I think some people just decide that a player is not doing well in spite of it being absolutely clear that they are. Seamus was huge for us up until his injury and that injury was caused by a tackle in a game as most of his injuries have been.

He has paid the price for being as brave as he is and I wish we had more like him.
