2024/25 Seamus Coleman

I honestly do hate how quickly some of our fans turn on players that gave their all for the club for the majority of their career.

Coleman deserves the utmost respect in my opinion. He has always given his all. Yes, he has now reached a point where his age is catching up with him and we need something better in the position. But that's not his fault.

His job is to play his position well, help to give the team a chance to win, and as captain to inspire his teammates. Right now he is totally incapable of any of that and at this point he’s just another one hanging on for dear life when they were finished years ago.

He’s made a great living playing football, lived and will continue to live a life many can dream of, has been adored by the fans and he’s been a great story. But ultimately he’s a footballer and not somebody there for the fans to pander to. He simply can't play at a high enough level any more and is a bit of a hindrance for a team circling the drain.

Club great or not, he’s been a big part of several generations of squads during the most stale period of the club’s history, and I’m not entirely sure how good a player who’s spent 18 years in professional football without ever winning a trophy can be for the up and comers in the dressing room.

Ultimately he controls his legacy and he took the money from a club who likes to hand silly contracts out and would’ve done exactly the same.

Wonder if he'd get as much protection on here if he was English.
When you look at the Young, Patterson and Myko threads and see the abuse they (rightfully at times) get, compared to how many defend Seamus here, it's a fair point.

People are living in the past. It's okay to call Coleman as being finished whilst still respecting the player he used to be.

How quick? He's been finished for a good three seasons, and massively on the decline for a further three before then. I'd hardly call over half a century a rapid change of opinion from the fans.

IMO Seamus shows a huge amount of disrespect to the fans for not having the intelligence to retire from international duty to keep himself as fresh as possible for the club that's made him a millionaire about 30 times over.

What do you mean how quick people turn? He hasn’t just suddenly started getting criticism 😂

He’s made no effort to save his legs for us by retiring from international football and instead feels the need to go away to play dead rubber qualifiers and friendlies with Ireland, so that is his fault.

Some fans just love to be angry at everything in life. Horrible mentality to attack a player and forget the previous 10-15 years of his career and service for the club. Club clearly gave him contracts in the last 2-3 years because they felt he could still offer something as backup and in the background as a captain and professional. It just so happens that Patterson isn't good enough.

Just my opinion though, carry on being angry at everyone all the time if you wish

Nobody is angry, we're just stating that being paid tens of thousands of pounds a week isn't service, and that just because the club felt he could offer something perhaps he could have felt otherwise. The fact that he took the money is very contradictory to "service".

Noone doubts his service. Just his best years are behind him as Premier League footballer. He should have been coming on at 80 mins to sure up defence. Not looking like he had run his second full marathon in a week after playing full game.
