2024/25 Seamus Coleman

Noone doubts his service. Just his best years are behind him as Premier League footballer. He should have been coming on at 80 mins to sure up defence. Not looking like he had run his second full marathon in a week.
And I'm not doubting that his best years are behind him. But there are legitimately people in this thread saying he's disrespecting Everton and a disgrace for taking a contract. I just don't think that's the right attitude to foster towards players that spent their whole career with Everton

You know what, I think it is a disgrace. He signed on pretty early in the transfer window, his wages were tied up from that day forth instead of being free to make a signing in that position. It's lazy from Dyche and Thelwell, but he still took the money. He could have held on until we were 100% not going to be able to sign a new fullback. I will add that I feel exactly the same way about Ashley Young, a far more decorated player.

He’s been a good player for us on the whole and a great signing for the money involved.

I hate the word ‘service’ though when it comes to footballers. Coleman has done extraordinarily well out of the club and been made a millionaire through it.

Realistically he was one of the best right backs in the league for about a 2 year spell between 2012-2014 but other than that he’s been very hit and miss.

Proving my point at how toxic some people are being rn. I'm not gonna keep debating this though as I'll go round in circles

What do you mean how quick people turn? He hasn’t just suddenly started getting criticism 😂

He’s made no effort to save his legs for us by retiring from international football and instead feels the need to go away to play dead rubber qualifiers and friendlies with Ireland, so that is his fault.

Black & Tan are at it again, I see.

Surely that's a decision for our football management team ? Contracts have to be offered by Everton first in order for a player to accept them.
Absolutely - it's a symptom of the real problem which is at the very top of the club. But players have been known to know when their legs have gone or standards have dropped. Seamus talks a good game. Rarely plays one these days, though.

Seamus has been wonderful but sadly he is finished at the top level.

I truly wish we hadn't offered him a contract because he blocks the pathway and progress of Dixon and gives Dyche a reason not to play the youngster.
It is something we have done for far too long, keep giving players contracts until they are well past their sell by dates and no one else wants them. Osman, Hibbert, Neville, Baines, Ferguson, the list is long. A better run club would be selling those players while they still seem to have a role to play, only for the club we sell them to to find out six months later that they`ve had it at the top level. We don`t seem to realize that until they`ve sign a new deal with us.

Wonder if he'd be caretaker manager if Dyche was sacked.
